I' don't care what anybody said about it, I'm chucking in Made in Dagenham. It firmly sits in my top 3 musicals of all time and I don't know what is going to knock it off. Saw it 3 times in its 6 months and I miss it terribly.

Lend Me aTenor!!! The most fun I've ever had in a theatre! I entirely agree with that. My previous high point for hysteria at the theatre was 'A Flea in Her Ear' with Albert Finney and Geraldine McEwan but 'Lend Me a Tenor' was even better because not only was it a hilarious farce but it was also a brilliant musical and also managed to make wicked fun of Italian opera, right down to extremely accurate observations of several real-life opera singers and their dreadful spouses. And the set was amazing. But I guess the show was like that song in 'On Your Toes' – 'Too good for the average man' |

Aspects of Love - the unforgettable sights of Michael Ball in boxers and the wall splitting in half
Pageant - so so funny and Michael Xavier's debut in drag!
From Here to Eternity - it had its problems but I thought it was a first class production and the cast worked their butts off

I Can't Sing! - It was actually a lot of fun when I saw it the week before it closed.
Lord of the Rings - I haven't seen the show, the score isn't bad.

A few already mentioned.
Beautiful Game and Whistle Down the Wind are far superior to most of ALW's more successful shows.
Godspell does not get done often enough!
Closer to Heaven, though the last 2 revivals were not good.
I'm gonna add Great Comet as it should never have closed on Broadway and hasn't been here yet.

I also love Beautiful Game and Whistle (well, the West End versions very much so) - dunno if they are better than the more successful stuff but are up there with them. The former was also a nice example of how well ALW can work when he really is just the composer. The idea was very much driven by Ben Elton. Probably the last time the idea belonged to the lyricist was Evita.... Agree also about Closer To Heaven. (Though are there any revivals other than the last two!?) |

A British film not really known elsewhere was always gonna struggle in the tourist dominated West End but was fabulous to see a great new British musical. Fab cast, great songs, wonderful production and set. I also miss it. Glad this was at least recorded. Sophie Louise Dann in full Barbara Castle impersonation (fiery, like her hair) belting out In An Ideal World is pure MT fabulousness. |

It is probably the MOST underrated musical I have ever seen. I remember during the performance I went to, they actually joked about the show's closure twice, which were both kind of bittersweet in a way. It was great to see that the cast and creatives were still able to have a sense of humour, despite the show not doing very well. Even the audience gave them a clap after both jokes. It's such a shame that it closed after such a short run. At least the critics were kinder to it than they've been to other West End flops like Viva Forever!, from what I've read at least. Someone on YouTube actually released all the songs on the site that they recorded during a performance using a soundboard or something, which you can check out here; |

I really liked Urinetown, I wished it did a bit better in the West End. Haven't seen the show in person, but know it and the music well. Such a great show. Soundtrack brilliant and story is so different from the norm. |
