I bought tickets for Mood Music because Rhys Ifans is in the starring role.
Just now I read that he has withdrawn for personal reasons. Am I going to have a great deal of woe getting a refund for my tickets? or is it customary that if the star of a play is no longer in the play you can get your money back no question?

The Old Vic are reasonably firm in that they will do exchanges but they will not do refunds. I've always found them pretty personable though so it's worth giving them a phone call and having the conversation. Terms and conditions of sale do say you're booking to see the play and not the actor, so they are legally covered for any casting changes they deem necessary, but it's always worth asking the question.

Thanks, Baemax. I've contacted them. I've never had this happen before.

Please can the title of this thread be changed to just the play title? Thanks As the mods have pointed out before, you should use the "report" function when you want to get their attention, 'cos if you just post in a thread you may as well be howling into a void and hoping they'll notice. Seems a bit... weirdly abrupt to demand a thread title change when the thread was started to ask a very specific question though...

Cast and creatives are exciting for this but I'm just not sure the synopsis grabs me!

I thought Consent was OK and whilst I obviously wish Mr Ifans and family the best, the fact that he is no longer in this has increased my interest. He was fine as Scrooge but I still shudder at the memory of him as Spike in Notting Hill, so an entire cast about whom I now have no feelings/views either way is great.

Hi all! Just a follow up to my ticket problem -- I bought tix for Mood Music in part because of Rhys Ifans (and in part, because the subject matter is interesting to me). When Rhys bowed out I immediately (w/in 24 hrs of buying the tix) sought a refund. Well, kudos to the Old Vic who showed good will and did refund me. I'd still like to see the play, but in cheap seats.
Haha -- showgirl! I happened to like him as Spike :-)
Best wishes,
Cat6

OK, got the L30 tix 2x. Function said I saved L89. Now I can see the play, and see why many of you recommend Ben Chaplin. I have 4th row in the stalls. (Earlier, with the pricey tix I had something farther back for much more! So the drop in prices has been precipitous!)
Thank you for your participation in my thread. Truly -- all's well that ends well.
Regards from the heart of NYC.

Why bother going through getting a refund if you're still going to see the play? Isn't that all rather pointless?

Hi Ryan,
In February or March I bought tix on the strength of Rhys Ifans in the play. And they were going for a very steep price. But, hey, we're in town once a year, if that's what they cost, that's what they cost; and it would be fun.
Less than 24 hours later Rhys bowed out, and that's when I pursued a refund. I forget how much the tix were. Maybe I put it out of my head. But they were very pricey.
Today I found there were tix newly available for around L27. Interested in this new news, I went to look, figuring they'd be in an upper balcony. I was very surprised to find I could buy L30 ones in the 4th row center of the stalls. So I got them.
As you saw in my previous post, the ticket-selling function congratulated me on saving L89 (so you can imagine what the original price was, before cast change and pricing change).
Does it make sense to you now? I saw there were tons of tickets left. So I hope the show goes on.

If you want to go, but preview time is bad, and you need to go the following week or so, check out "from the box office dot com" for tix where I found 4th row ctr for less than half the current rack rate.

monkey -- I got mine for L30 at the place noted in my msg above. 4th row stalls, ctr. I looked at another site, too, being a shopper, and saw farther back ones for L65! So, buyer beware.

Availability for this show, except for the previews and one or two other nights, seems very good.

It is a big theatre to fill, but I do wonder about their publicity. The photo they kept putting out for F&A was terrible - especially when there were some glorious visual moments in it.
I booked for a preview of Mood Music knowing nothing about (sort of ditto F&A) because at £10 - why not? But if they want people to be forking out over £50 for tix they need to give them a reason. (IMO - F&A was much better than the Master Builder, which sold out. But Fiennes is great box office.)

I went to the old vic site -- is it just me, or can't you see a seating plan when you're choosing and you're getting an automatic Hobson's Choice?
Not seeing a seating plan would make me back out.

Thank you, Foxa. Duh! I should have clicked! Anyway -- I checked the date I'm going on and seat, and row L on the old vic site is going for L65 and I paid L30!
