Btw, Richard Eyre, reviewing Macbeth on Saturday Review, said that stage killed his production, too.

Yep, for "John" I initially booked a side seat, then swapped it for the back of the stalls, then swapped that for front row rush. I've also done this loads at the RSC when they start doing offers close to the show date. xanderl, can I ask what your profile photo is all about? I'm intrigued!

JUST LOOK
At the RSC site
They have a digital Timer as a header
#THESCOTTISHPLAY
It’s going to sh*t on the NT
Also interesting they have had
Almost 10 weeks of rehearsals For this
A very long time

Apparently the NT are doing something similar. A timer for how long before Rufus gets his P45!

Perhaps someone in the Arts Council will give Norris a large amount of money to set up a new company when he leaves. That is what happens these days isn't it?

Front row Nothing positive to say “It just doesn’t work” “Lose any sense of setting” “Gang leaders killing gang leaders” “Benetton ad of accents so you never get a sense of place” “Shocking by cutting double double toil and trouble” Also what the hell Is this blaming the Oliver all the time? Plenty of good shows have played there Including Market Boy by this very director Maybe the issue is too many sh*t directors

I can’t imagine anyone will touch him with a barge pole He was never the right person for the role He will be the most easily forgotten AD at the NT And in many ways he reflects the current state of the U.K. and the world at large Cheap failing and not all that good

This is a Macbeth that looks the part, tries hard to be relevant and whips up a murky ambience of ghoulishness and gore. But with shaky direction, and the central characters failing to involve us, it’s an unfortunate failure.

Tries hard
And failure
Is RuNos trademark now
I can see it on his school report
And it’s a disgrace he continues to take a salary from the NT

Didn't Rufus direct Festen all those years ago....I thought that was rather thrillingly staged. Poor NT. There's a battle with the RSC now, with their Duchess of Malfi, to see who can get the worst reviews. I so loved their last Malfi, and it really can still work as a brilliant play. This seems director damaged. Festen was a very long time ago As was Market Boy Even nasty criminals were innocent babes Once

xanderl, can I ask what your profile photo is all about? I'm intrigued! Removed the last but one photo in the midst of discussions on Spacey etc, replaced with an image saying "Redacted". Then someone pointed out it looked like the new Globe logo so I recreated it using that

This thread does not have a poll attached to it, unlike others They seemed to experiment with a small number but I haven’t seen any for a while now. Has the idea been dropped?

I have a ticket for this, and now I'm getting to the point where I have to spend £60 or whatever on a train ticker - or not. Should I bother? I could cut my losses and not go, or fork out for a train?

I could cut my losses and not go, or fork out for a train? My honest opinion As you ask Don’t go I found it miles worse than Salome The combination of awful acting Ugly Design And lack of any focus in the direction Means there is nothing positive you will take away Add to this the arrogant cutting of the text And you aren’t even getting a proper Macbeth If you are curious You can see the NT live for it But for me It’s the worst staging and direction Of a a Shakespeare I have ever seen And it is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who has the misfortune to see it It’s not even worth seeing for historical or other value Just so one can know how awful it was The acting is below amateur standards Way below

I have a rkt for June, i live in the midlands and the return train journey takes nearly six hours but it was my choice to book in advance therefore i go. Im afraid i simply do not understand the posters here who say they wouldnt go. Illness or force majeure aside.

Im afraid i simply do not understand the posters here who say they wouldnt go. Illness or force majeure aside. because theatre isn't an obligation. We all have enough in our lives we HAVE to do, and with our ever decreasing funds and time many of us choose to change our minds. I'm all for giving a production a go, and I've given many a production a go in my time that frankly didn't deserve it. But equally if someone decides life is too short for a production that's almost universally panned, I see nothing wrong with that. That does double for Shakespeare. Because it's hardly the only chance to see Macbeth, even this year. And if another likely better one may come along well frankly, godspeed. I have a ticket for it. I may or may no decide to return it- I haven't given it that much thought yet to be honest. I'm sorry if that makes me a terrible person, but hey ho.

As a lad of sometimes unexplainable principles myself, I support anyone who refuses to return theatre tickets. However I personally would recommend most people give this a miss if it's going to be a significant outlay for them. It was a couple of zones tube fare and £15 for me to go to this with someone who was very keen, and that gave me something to do for the evening. If it was expensive train tickets, hotel stays, £60 seats, absolutely not. Whilst I don't believe a theatre should be obliged to refund you just because you change your mind about a product/service you've bought, if they do offer such a concept then you're perfectly fine to take advantage of it.
I don't think I ever posted anything on here but I saw this in the second preview and hated it, if I hadn't made that clear earlier. Don't go.

I think that's exactly it- if I was up the road, I'd probably give it a go to say I did. I've done it plenty of times with 'local' productions, the 'I've got a ticket so I'm going' mentality is stronger there. And as much as I support theatres that allow exchanges/credit notes, I've also previously taken the hit on a cheap ticket when the price of getting to see the show would vastly outweigh the ticket cost and any enjoyment I'd potentially get. I'm fine with taking a £15 hit to save myself £60 in trains, and an entire day when I could have done something else with my time.
