The dress is similar to the tour one, mostly in colour. It's a lot more detailed than the tour one. It's the weird overskirt that really gets me - it just looks a bit unfinished

Adam Pearce was absolutely incredible as Javert - I hope he becomes principal one day. I saw Adam Pearce a few months back as Javert - thought he was spectacularly good. I'm not a huge LM fan, but I'd see it again just to see him in the role.

Turning, turning, turning, turning, turning, Through the years... Frances Ruffelle... blew me away in the original Linzi Hateley anyone? Wonderful... Kaho Shimada on that precious symphonic recording... Meredith Braun... just beautiful... Lea Salonga, who can forget her? Without me, (t)his world will go on turning... Linzi Hateley was my first Eponine, back in 1986. She blew me away and I have been a huge fan ever since. But i prefer to keep my fandom away from any stage door! I had the OLCR long before I saw the show, playing it constantly. So when I actually got to see it onstage, I was shocked that 'At The End of The Day' wasn't the opening number! Ah, the lovely Linzi Hateley... I was lucky enough to see her in Just So at the Tricycle just after her Eponine too. Did you see that? I wonder how many others expected At The End Of The Day to be the first song in the show, having listened to the OLC recording over and over again before seeing it...? I know lots of kids who knew every word of Little People from listening to their parents' vinyl records, and when they were old enough to see the show discovered that the song had all but disappeared!

His 'stars' got the biggest applause of the night. I've never heard such powerful live male vocals before.

The new Cosette dress is basically the same one from the tour/current Broadway production, isn't it? When does the blue dress appear? I used to love the fact that the first time we see adult Cosette, she is still wearing the black dress and bonnet which Valjean dressed her in, after her rescue, as if she is still in mourning for her mother.

Unfortunately I missed Linzi in Just So, as I wasnt living in London at the time, but I did see her in' The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' with Millie Martin in Basingstoke!
Linzi needs a new thread in the performers section... *goes off to start it*

Frances Ruffelle... blew me away in the original Linzi Hateley anyone? Wonderful... Kaho Shimada on that precious symphonic recording... Oh yes on all of those "lovely ladies" indeed. Of course, Linzi is still in the show, has been since the 80s. She plays "the scream" every night, as it is still hers that is used. This might be really stupid, but I always asked myself whether it was pre-recorded or a live scream every evening, haha! Why is it pre-recorded though? Oh, and another Q (might be a stupid one as well, haha) why are small cosette and eponine not present at curtain call? I mean they did make an appearance? And it's not like they're not allowed to be on stage anymore right? Gavroche also gets his applause

They recorded the scream to protect the actor's voice-screaming every night like that on top of singing presumably wouldn't do them much good.
The kids go home after they aren't needed any more, I guess because it's a long show and there's no need to keep them around for a curtain call? they all stay on their last night though.

Interestingly enough, I don't think this has ever been the case in the US. I can think of a few Eponines whose screams I wish had been recorded...

Yes, I thought that it took him a while to get going - once the show got to the confrontation he seemed to be a lot more in his element. His stars was completely wonderful!

From In My Life/A Heart Full of Love through to Every Day. My friend wrote a great piece on tumblr about the importance of the black dress. I'm not entirely sure why they brought the new dress in now, though.

Random question given it's Olivier season. Why was Patti Lupone's Fantine in the Best Actress in a Musical category? Surely this is a supporting role given Fantine is dead for the middle 1.5 hours of the show.

I think that back in the day, it was more a consideration of the importance of the role rather than the size of the role necessarily. That's what I always took from it anyway.

Seeing it next weekend. What can I expect cast wise? I'm not very good a keeping track of all the comings and goings. Thanks! I saw it in December and the current cast are brilliant! I can't speak of Eva obviously as she hasn't started, but Peter was incredible as Jean Vajean. I wasn't the biggest fan of Javert but it was an understudy so the lead I assume will be stronger. The understudy Marius (Edd Campell Bird) was absolutely brilliant and stole the show which I never expected from a Marius track but he was stunning! I really like this cast so I hope you enjoy it.
As far as the Holiday Dates, none are currently announced for any cast members next weekend as far as I am aware so you will have full cast unless illness or emergencies take hold. Have fun!

Who thinks Les Mis will win the Olivier Award again ?

Who thinks Les Mis will win the Olivier Award again ? My prediction is Les Mis... I am somewhat surprised Billy isn't nominated as it is their final chance to be nominated and is audience nominated. But I guess that's how it goes. I want, out of the four, for it to either be Matilda or Les Mis. I am a huge fan of both so I would be happy with either!

I just watched Eva's performance of "On my own" on youtube.
I have to say I really like it, it's as if she makes something new/original of the role, refreshing little acting choices etc.

Has anyone seen Eva yet? I'm going down next week, looking forward to it.
Will put her Oliviers performance down to nerves. On My Own used to be slow and beautiful but current directors obsessed with forcing the actresses into an angrily spitting every other word at 100mph while running around the stage and gesturing with the hat.

That goes for the whole show too. Get it over as quickly, and with as much heightened emotion, as you can!
