So I've just seen the video of the new casts first Finale. I'm hoping I'll warm to Layton over time. I'm not a fan of his voice in the Finale but I can't judge his entire performance from that. What has annoyed me though is the curtian call changes. The order has been changed for the bows clearly just to accommodate Shane's casting, which has also come with music changes to the bows. So after Luke Baker bows, Hayley bows as normal, but then it's been changed to Ray bowing next, followed by Pritti, then Hugo, then Rebecca and Layton. I don't like this change at all, it feels like it was done for no reason other than Shane because it has worked for all the other casts to have it be Miss Hedge, Hugo, Ray, Pritti, Margaret then Jamie. And also, to follow on from that, Hugo's Finale outfit has been changed from what was fun and fitting with his character to nothing more than jeans, a T shirt and a sparkly red jacket. Kinda not on board with these changes. I think his voice is quite different from John's and Luke's, that's why. It's more like Angel (Rent) and Lola (Kinky Boots).

So I've just seen the video of the new casts first Finale. I'm hoping I'll warm to Layton over time. I'm not a fan of his voice in the Finale but I can't judge his entire performance from that. I think this is his first adult role as a lead (he's had featured roles and was lead in Billy Elliot, but this part is quite different). He obviously has a great following and his personality comes across on the stage. I did think that a lot of the songs weren't that well suited to his voice and he often sings and speaks rather quietly (but this might be the sound mixing). The singing is covered with a lot of vibrato, to the extent that it's acceptable, but it's not John or Luke. But hopefully the singing will improve over the run. It's not a part where you have to be the best singer in the world to make it look good. And he could just as easily have been trying to get through the first preview and suffering with a cold, or something.

What you should also remember about Shane, is that he didn't actually audition (if I've heard it correctly.) They held auditions, had someone, then Shane said he'd like to do it and they said yes. So, yeah, that.

Yes, he said on The One Show that he was contacted and asked if he'd like to do it.

Again, no cover list in the programme. Not even for Jamie... Disgusting really Blimey, you're easily disgusted. Yes, it’s important for the company to support their own cast and understudies... The only high profile West End Musical to not list their covers. On a brighter note, new cast are absolutely brilliant. Shane is great, despite getting muddled with some words (every Hugo has), he really made it his own. Sejal was brilliant as I knew she would be. Pleasantly surprised with Hayley too, a brilliant Miss Hedge. Agree with the comments re Layton. I don’t think he was as bad as some of the reviews I’ve seen but he was rushing over lots of important lines and really quiet at parts. Hopefully his understudy WHOEVER it may be is an all rounder 😉 FYI Luke Latchman is 1st cover Jamie and Adam Taylor is 2nd cover Jamie

Sorry mate, I'm just watching a news story about one of the stars of Empire, who has beaten up by two men, who then wrapped a rope around his neck and poured a chemical substance over him. Anyhow, remind me what you're "disgusted" over again?

Lucie blows Sabrina's Pretti out of the water, in terms of acting and singing. The new Pretti feels so cold and there's barely any chemistry between her and Jamie.
Also, John remains my favourite Jamie. His comedic timing was so on-point. I would even argue that Luke was a better Jamie than Layton. Layton lacks the vocals and his portrayal feels stagnant throughout, lacking some sort of development.
They changed some lighting effects, such as the tables for the opening number and Work of Art.

Soooo... any early opinions of the new cast ? Very good for a first show with an almost all new cast. Lovely but behaved audience all the way through. Lots of clapping and cheering. Shane Richie really stood out. Excellent and the crowd loved him. The sound balance needs a bit of work with the new cast. Show seemed fresh. Jamie Campbell was sat three seats away and very popular. Handed the woman in front tissues when she cried during He’s My Boy. The swings were watching from one of the boxes. Layton Williams was good. Not sure the chav gear look suited him. Added a flip and some other nice dance moves. Hasn’t quite good the vocals yet. A few minor line slips. Shane Richie forgot to get the microphone out at the start of his number.Sejal Jeshwala, came across as a sexier version of Ray. Hayley Tamadon was an excellent Miss Hedge. Sharp and the best I’ve seen. New ensemble were tight. Sabrina Sandhu has potential and a good voice. Not quite got the presence yet. Only off scene was the dance for If I Met Myself Again with the same two dancers as before, just looked odd with Ryan Hughes being white and Marlon G Day being black. They’ve chosen the mix of ethnicities very carefully everywhere else so that just came across as odd.Instant and well-deserved standing ovation at the end from the sold out house. He did the same thing tonight, so it seems like that's how he does it for the scene. Maybe they are just waiting for Ryan's contract to be up? Marvyn has been covering Mickey, so maybe he will be principal later on?

I was there too and I fell in love with Sabrina's Pritti immediately, I definitely prefer her to Lucie. I loved every minute of Layton's performance but to be fair I'm his big fan since Rent. I do agree his voice is weaker then John's or Luke's but his presence on stage was for me absolutely sensational.

He did the same thing tonight Oh brother, it's the "poke in the eye - how can I rumble with only one eye" thing from "Grease" at the Dominion in the 90s all over again. Difference is, it took until I met a few other people who had seen the show months later to realise what he was up to. In the internet age, 48 hours... I'm confused, explain!

Bad manners, I feel, outside of panto. He's definitely got some panto habits. When he toured endlessly in Scrooge he was very well disciplined, and a really good company leader, but would end every curtain call by shouting "Taxi to Walford" - the audience of course went wild. Interesting to see what impact he has at the box office for Jamie - as 10 years ago those huge touring theatres were selling out largely on the strength of his name.

This surely has to do with the same two girls who as well as being big Jamie fans were also the Heathers fans who caused similar trouble at stage door and claimed to have friendships with the cast. The recent social media posts of those girls certainly fit inline with the content of the Jamie and Jordan tweets.
Edit: This account seems to have the same theory.

Wow. I'm shocked that all of this drama at three different shows is from the same people. They really need to learn.
