Vocally, if you compare Luke’s performance at WEL this year to John’s performance at WEL last year, Luke sounded a LOT better in my opinion. Haven’t seen Luke on stage in the show yet, but I wouldn’t judge him based on the WEL performance.

Really wish I wasn't so busy this week, would have loved to finally return to this show and see Luke as Jamie. Hopefully there'll be other dates he's on where I'm not so busy and can attend, either way I need to go and see the show again soon

I'm of course not judging his performance in the show, but solely on the performance at West End Live, which just didnt work for me with him in that role. I hope I can see him to make my own choice over his performance.

Just watched the WEL performance. Am not really on board with Luke as Jamie based on that. To me his voice didn't sound that great and the accent felt like it was getting in the way and was a distraction to me, unlike John's performance I saw in the show. That said, I'm sure hes good live. Try watching one of the videos that has been recorded from the audience. For some reason, with most of the performers, the soundboard audio on the official videos makes them sound a little off in places. I was surprised at how different some people that I’ve seen before, such as the kinky boots cast sounded on their recordings. I was much more impressed and found that they vocals sounded much closer to what I expected when I began watching videos which had the audio from the audience’s perspective.

I saw one of Luke's first performances as Jamie. He tripped over one line, BUT, he was sensational! A very slightly different Jamie, but dare I say I think he was my favourite? As someone above said, his attention to details was fantastic, every little move, nuance etc was very well thought through and delivered - he really got into the character.

When I saw it Phil Nichol was the weakest link in the show so it will be interesting to see someone else in the role. I wonder if it was the actors fault or just the way it's written. Though I suspect it can be played much bigger than it was before.

I saw the understudy - Ken Christiansen play the Phil Nichols' character (the gent who usually plays the dad) as well as Phil and Ken was so much better than Phil. With Josie going (and of course she will be missed!) they leve themselves open to casting another diva with an amazing voice. Jo Riding woukd have been perfect. Ruthie would be great or Maria Friedman? Is La Paige too old for the role? or maybe too camp? S

I'd love to see Sally Ann Triplett as the mum. yes she's slightly older than Josie but she certainly doesn't look it. She would act and sing the heck out of it.
Unfortunately it won't be her as she's in Sweeney Todd until August ;(

I turned up at 6pm about a month ago wanting 3 tickets, midweek and got offered £20 front row or Row D for £25. You'll be fine at 9 I've tried politely asking if there are any £25 stalls/day seats later in the day a couple of times and the guy in the box office has given me a very grumpy 'NO' both times. He said they only ever give stalls seats for £25 to people in the day seat queue who miss out on getting the ends of the front row, even though I've heard multiple reports (like yours) of people getting them later in the day. Maybe I need to up my charm game.

I'm fully expecting at least one of the replacements to be star casting in an attempt to boost ticket sales. Because despite the extension, the ticket sales aren't amazing for this, so hopefully a boost in sales will see it futher its life in the West End.

It'd be tricky to do star casting unless it's for Hugo/Loco Chanel or maybe Ray. I'll be curious to see if the live broadcast helps at all.

What makes you think the ticket sales are poor?

Correct, however the comment made was with regards to ticket sales, and given that the West End Grosses aren't published, it could have only been a reference to the physical number of tickets sold. I therefore responded with a post about capacity.

West End Grosses aren't published over here. "The Stage" newspaper publishes a monthly count of empty seats at a selection of shows. Not scientific, as they just go from what they can see on a public online booking system. That's about all the information out there, though. I always think this is such a flawed method. Venues can hide as many unsold seats on their online seating plans as they like, in order to push sales into specific parts of the auditorium (or simply to disguise how unpopular a show is).
