Fabulous news...this just shows that people love Jamie and again, I reiterate that this will extend further through the end of the year as the word of mouth spreads... TBH if it runs until October then it'll have done 11 months which for an original musical is very good. |

oh hooray! lovely news. And an 11 month run for a new, original musical is really good. Especially one that didn't come from one of the big producers to start with. Hopefully that'll open the door for others too.
Also that means I'll manage to get a return visit in.
Now where's that cast recording eh?

Finally got to see this last night. Looked like a full house to me. Found it to be really charming in every way. An old fashioned Brit musical complete with stellar over the top performances (in a good way!) dreadful gags (in a lovely way), hammy choreography (wanted to be up there with them) bouncy tunes ( nothing too challenging) and a shakey set. By comparison to that bruise-r broadway blockbuster that beats its audience into submission this is like spending an evening with people you’ve actually never met before but feel like you know really well. So pleased it’s looks to have found an audience and hopefully with time it will be seen as the return of the proper new story book musical and the death of all the jukebox stuff and umpteen classic revivals. Fingers crossed x

Saw this last night. Full house from what I could tell; pretty mixed bag of ages too. I had to explain what a minger was and the relevance of Canal Street to the American Lady sitting behind me but I don't think the audience generally had any problems with the references.
I loved that the ensemble were truly representative and believeable as British teenagers.
Loved Dan Gillespie Sells' music. Loved John McCrea. Loved It Means Beautiful. Loved the teacher's white H & M blouse (I have the same one!).
Rapturous reception at the end.

Finally got to this, this afternoon. It did everything for me that "Hamilton" really didn't. I'm not talking about this one, I'm babbling. Not ashamed to admit I hardly saw half of "If I Met Myself Again" as my eyes were swimming (who were the dancers, the programme wasn't clear). The whole thing just punches and punches and punches again, every single emotional button across the range. Jamie and his mum for the Oliviers, and the rest of them. Will write more on my site next week. For me...it is the freshest score since Billy Elliott and hands down my favourite Show of the year. If this show doesn’t have a long run and transfer to Broadway, there’s no justice |

Just to add my voice to having seen and loved this. Josie Walker absolutely smashed He's My Boy, raw emotion and a thoroughly deserved rapturous reception, I loved the whole cast but that was the stand out for me.
For anyone like me who are tempted by the concept album, whilst waiting for the cast recording, you may want to know that most songs are sung by Dan Gillespie Sells apart from If I Met Myself Again and He's My Boy (sung by Josie Walker), My Man Your Boy (John McCrea & Josie Walker) and Work of Art (Sophie Ellis-Bextor), Betty Boo pops up doing the rap on And You Don't Even Know It too.

I still think that the drag shop stuff goes on too long though. It just drags. It's the only bit in the show i got a bit fed up of and was waiting for it to move on. Though strangely it did feel shorter the second time i saw the show last week than it did the first, i don't think any of it has been cut though, i think i just knew it was my least fave part of the show and went on a bit and so was prepared for it.

Saw this at the matinee yesterday.
Had a moment of uncertainty when with Jamie's first appearance it was distinctly laughing at him rather than with him in a 70's sitcom kind of way but that feeling of it changed within minutes.
The genuine warmth between characters on the stage, glorious heartfelt songs, one of the best and truest depictions of a mum and son I've seen on stage,
I loved the staging of it, the projection onto the curtains of Jamie coming through them as he's walking in the opposite direction on stage was quite stunning.
I was with an Austrailian friend who really enjoyed the show, in said some references went over his head but he still got what they meant by them.
I'll be honest I could have wept long and hard, but tried to keep it in check and kept discreetly dabbing my eyes.
To me it celebrates all things I love about this country both in sentiment on stage and the actual production of it.
Fantastic.

I adore this show and so happy to read all the love. I also spend far too much time wishing that John McCrea and Lucie Shorthouse are BFFs and that Mina Anwar is their sassy, say it as it is auntie IRL.

I've been wanting to see this for ages but waiting for a chance to day-seat on a Wednesday (wonder btw how producers decide which day to schedule their weekday matinee? Thursday seems slightly more popular and works better for me); even if I won the Todaytix lottery, I don't think my neck could cope with the front row so I shall have to hope that the Box Office will offer me an affordable alternative. Also hoping that going for a weekday matinee in term-time and on a day when there are 2 shows will improve my prospects.

Saw this last night, enjoyed it far more than I expected to and can definitely see myself returning to it again at some point. I do have to agree with some on here though, the drag shop scene was just too drawn out and boring. I get why they've left the scene as it is but I'd prefer for them to shorten it considerably, it was the only part of the show that didn't hold my full attention.
Love for a cast recording to be released soon as, I've had three of the songs stuck in my head since leaving the theatre.

, the drag shop scene was just too drawn out and boring I found the whole "Legend of Loco Chanelle" sequence one of my favourites. It set up a lot of the situation to come, too, as did the rest of the scene. Wonder what I saw that others didn't? Would also point out that on Saturday afternoon a cover was playing Hugo, so maybe that helped? The Hugo cover is amazing. He usually plays the dad. Why did Spencer Stafford go from playing a drag queen in Sheffield to swinging? Does he cover all three queens too? |
