There is a train back to Sheffield at 22:26 tonight. You are aware that's not a valid train right? It takes you to Derby where you have to wait until 11:00am the next morning for a connection. The last train that gets you back in under 10 hours is the 20:56 so my point stands about matinee performances. Please check your facts before posting... Fair point I know that last train does take forever and a day. Good argument for later faster trains, hope this happens when High Speed 2 opens.

I re-watched the documentary last night, Fifi’s dress for the prom was very glam indeed! What is touching is just how many fellow students and parents rallied round to overthrow the school’s decision to refuse her entry. At least the dress the real one wore was glam!

Had a friend go to one of the performances this week. Upper Circle was closed when they went. A shame really that such a small theatre has to close one of its Circles, especially this early in the run.

I was there on Thursday and the theatre felt rammed - although I didn’t see if all levels were open - which is perhaps why it felt like that in the stalls.
There are so many wonderful things about this show, it’s a shame that they haven’t refined the several bits that don’t work. The book needs a good lopping. It could easily lose 20-30 minutes and would be much stronger for it because there are some genuinely funny gags and great lines in there.
Some great songs, and Olivier noms for Jamie, best friend, mum and choreography please. Nul points for the drag queens. What a drag!

Agreed abotu the drag queens. That whole scene in the drag shop is so long and dull, a real drag.

Will there by a cast recording? I think it's the best new score of the year!

I can't remember many of the songs bar Don't Even Know It, Work of Art, Everybody's Talking About Jamie, Beautiful and He's My Boy so a Cast Recording would be great haha.

That's a good amount of songs to remember considering you've seen it once. I'm always impressed by people who can actually remember songs from a show with 19 songs or so, without having heard the score before.

Some musicals, like Les Miserables, or the current production of 42nd, are so large, they create their own energy. Others get their energy from the audience. Everybody's Talking, I would suggest, falls into the latter camp (pun intended). Sadly, on a wet Wednesday afternoon, performing to a half-full house, if that, energy going from the audience to the cast, and back again, was a bit thin on the ground.
The chatter on the way out was that everyone had enjoyed it but, and this sounds obvious, it desperately needs to get people through the door.

Saw the show show tonight. What a wonderful show, wonderful production and wonderful cast. Thought it was a perfect representation of what a year 11 classroom is like - loud, diverse, wacky and mostly insecure.
Refreshing to go to a west end show with a decent sound design also!!

Saw the show on friday. For a foreigner like me the accents were difficult. Not a smart move for a musical in the west end. But I loved the show and I really hopes it will find his audience. I am definitely going to see it again!

I am definitely going to see it again! I'm glad you enjoyed it but I have to disagree on accents not being a 'smart move' for the West End. We actually need more accents in our theatres, lest we become the generic 'American' accent of Broadway. I love that Jamie is giving voice (literally) to somewhere not generically 'London' ...accents are something we're very proud of regionally and it's great to have them in the West End. So if a few tourists have a bit of trouble understanding I say (with love) tough, deal with it. Because it's great to occasionally hear another 'voice' on stage.

I am definitely going to see it again! Because the Scouse accent in Blood Brothers or Cockney accents in Oliver made the shows suffer? Year right......

funny that John himself doesn't sound remotely like his character ..... so he really is ACTING the character's accent.

Does anyone know if Luke Bayer has gone on as Jamie yet? He's a mutual friend of a few of my friends so I'd be really interested in hearing how his performance is.

I honestly can't see this surviving long on Broadway. Perhaps a short run at New World Stages or such but not in a Broadway theatre.

So if a few tourists have a bit of trouble understanding I say (with love) tough, deal with it. Because it's great to occasionally hear another 'voice' on stage. Speaking as a fellow non-native speaker, I can guarantee that accents are something you get better accustomed to the more you are exposed to them. I remember years ago seeing Billy Elliott for the first time... oh my, did I struggle with the accent and with some of the expressions, which I wasn't familiar with at all. Flash-forward to a good few years later (and having been living here for a while now), and not even once did I have issues with the accents in "Everybody's talking about Jamie". And having seen the original documentary, it would probably weird me out slightly, if in the show he spoke with RP. Like emicardiff was saying, I believe accents add to the value of a play or musical, because... well, because we all have one - regardless of how strong - and "real" people don't go about their daily lives sticking to RP and the rules of enunciation the whole time. So... my suggestion, chess, is to embrace regional accents and learn to enjoy what makes them different from one another - it'll require an additional effort, at first, but it will totally pay off.
