Michael Blakemore. He directed it originally at NT in 1998 didn't he. Sort of churlish of me as he's a decent director but at 89 I'm surprised he gets the amount of work he does and it's at the expense of young directors for whom openings at major theatres like this are few.

Missed this at the NT and again at Sheffield, so will book for it. Blakemore is a v safe pair of hands isnt he? But i take your point, why isnt he retired? Evans must like the play as the Sheffield revival took place under his leadership. Wonder about the other two leads.

Just as an aside, his memoir about the early days of the NT "Stage Blood" is an entertaining read and a monumental whine about Peter Hall but it ends up reflecting quite badly on Blakemore himself. |

I'd say it must be after, as the Chichester season doesn't usually kick off until April, which is when Absolute Hell is also kicking off. Assuming all provided info is true, obs.  |

Yeah, safe to say this will be after his NT stint. I just hope this play won't be too deep or convoluted (or incredibly long) for my tiny mind to comprehend. Now I wonder who Blakemore will cast as Bohr??
Just as a side note, Charles hasn't performed at the CFT for 21 years. Long overdue, huh!

That's a bit ageist, isn't it, doc? If he can still do it, why not? He probably has a younger assistant working with him (at least I hope so) passing on all that knowledge and experience. |

A source has informed me Charles Edwards isn't starring in Copenhagen any more.
Most plausible explanation is his stint at the National in April is going to last longer than expected (the NT stated further dates were TBA beyond 23rd May), meaning the productions would've clashed.
That or Blakemore has scrapped his project together.

Patricia Hodge is playing Bohr's wife. That's the cast complete, and with her added I have now become rather desperate to see this.

True, the Minerva looks to be an intimate venue, with 310 seats at full capacity, but it helps Copenhagen is an established, multi award-winning play, and having it be directed by Blakemore again is a bonus. Im going in September, as part of a double bill with Flowers. Cant wait. |
