What a brillaint idea!
Brendan O’Hea will tour productions of The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night, allowing the audience to decide which production will play on the night. It was traditional in Shakespeare’s time for companies to tour with a repertoire of several productions, with the most powerful member of the household deciding which play was performed. The tour begins at the Globe from 7th May.

Well you say that but not everybody can go to every venue on the hope that they'll see every play.
There are assigned performances at Chilham Castle Kent. Maybe I'll make a holiday out of that. The tour is also going to start at the Globe, though there's no indication whether they will do assigned performances yet

Whilst I can understand the historical basis for this decision, I would only book to see a particular play.
It does feel more like a gimmick than something designed to engage new audiences given that to make an informed choice, you already need to know the plays.
Also I pity the actors who have to rehearse three plays in a short time and keep them all ready just in case.

The Globe website has separate listings for the three touring productions and for "Voters Choice", so it looks as if they plans some pre-determined performances and some selected by the audience. I guess we'll see when the dates are announced.

I have a feeling that audiences are far more likely to pick Twelfth Night when given the choice - it is the 'safest' one of the three. Merchant and Shrew both having elements that some people find off-putting.
