Just to let every one know and to pass on the details to who ever may be affected,.
I have tickets for the final matinee of War Horse on 12/3/16.
Booked the tickets about 6 months ago.
Through a friend, today I found out ( confirmed by NT) that the start time has been changed to 1.30pm.
My tickets at home say 2.30pm.
NT have not notified me of the change.
Have they notified anyone?
I have spoken to NT and the box office staff was very helpful and apologetic.
Lets hope this NT mess does not spoil lots of people's weekend.
Spread the word.

From my understanding, between the matinee and evening performances, they have programmed a short event ( celebrating the success?)

Interesting you say that TheatreMonkey, as I saw the original at the Olivier many years ago and wasn't particularly overwhelmed either; the puppetry is very impactful but it's a pretty slight story* and I remember thinking that the acting was fairly poor as well - the accents were all over the place. I much preferred the previous NT family shows - Coram Boy and the Dark Materials plays. I did wonder whether it was because I care more about horses suffering than children...!
Great that it was so successful and probably a brilliant intro to theatre for kids but I wasn't ever tempted to see it again.
*Before anyone says anything, I don't mean that WWI is a slight story, and I thought War Horse did a good job of putting across some of the horror, but it was very simplistic and broad brush telling.

I mean, it's a pretty open secret that no one at the NT thinks the script is up to much at all, but the production as a whole does then become a shining example of how theatre is so much more than just the sum of its parts.

I too made it on saturday for the matinee. It wasnt as great as id hoped it would be. Id seen Joey at west end live and the like and that had removed much of the mystery

This thread is so desperately in need of a dissenting voice, I'm happy to oblige.
The puppets and their operation undoubtedly deserve all the superlatives heaped up on them and more. The staging and the use of music in the show are also excellent but the narrative itself is, for me, a bit meh. The whole thing is reminiscent of a so so gift in stunningly beautiful gift wrap.
