Didnt realise you could edit quotes or maybe my phone didnt show the top bit of the quote. It does seem a bit of a leap to me to assume the last paragraph refers back to the mention of seniors rather than being a comment about punters partaking in many a g and t or lager or alcopop before and during a show

Where does it mention or suggest alcohol in his post, bengal73?

I personally took it to mean alcohol too. Thought it was a reference to audiences at jukebox musicals usually being in a bit more of a party mood than a theatre going one.

I also thought that the last sentence was a reference to alcohol. Seemed to be enough to read between the lines without explicitly saying it - and far enough away from the 'senior' comment for them to be related.

As the 2 posters avove have said reading the last paragraph its pretty easy to assume he was referring to alcohol based inebriation without stating that alcohol consumption had taken place

In fact looking back across the last 2 pages since the post in question 4 of us have felt it was a reference to alcohol only you picked it up as a reference to age? 80% against 20%. Interesting that is it not

Yes, I'm sure a post which doesn't mention alcohol, but does mention "seniors" is actually about alcohol.

Yet taking the part. Judging by most of the audience by the next day they wont remember having been doesnt mention seniors either and in isolation says to me that as they left the theatre they were looking a bit tipsy.
Its clearly not just me who reads it that way. If someone says to me I bet you dont remember what you did last night I dont instantly think. Oh theyre being ageist. Im more likely to think they were assuming id been drinking. Alcohol isnt mentioned in that conversation either

You know what the sad thing is... this whole alcoholic/ageist thing has been more entertaining than this whole thread and I haven't seen it yet, but by the sounds of it the whole show too...

As a "senior" I find myself forgetting more and more things. So I took the forgetting to mean "as part and parcel of being senior". I can see how others might have put that down to alcohol.

That being said, who cares if youngsters want to label us seniors as being stupid enough to forget what they saw the day before?

Im 43 and stupid enough to remember the stuff from yesterday. I think its ageist to suggest this forgetting things is exclusively for the genuinely senior (said tongue firmly in cheek)

Went to see this today, stalls third row. 6.5/10, I think. Plus points - cast try really hard, the band is good and the young Michael Jackson was great. But that is it. The core of the story is the affair between Berry Gordy and Diana Ross, and if there had been one more Ross number they would have had to rename it Diana Ross - The Musical. Plus there is way too much on the post Detroit period, and they even spend a few minutes on some very dubious performers from that era that I'd never heard of (Rick James? Teena Marie?) And as others have said, way too many great songs crammed in and probably even more left out (no Tracks of My Tears, Just my Imagination, Tears of a Clown, no Superstition - I could go on) but PLENTY of "Reach Out and Touch" (including a lame attempt to get someone in the audience to sing along with the Ross character. The guy they finally got was brave for sure, but he was truly excruciating), not Motown's finest hour IMHO, and even parts of Lady Sings the Blues.

Would you like to get up and dance? Forget it. Although this is rightfully banned during the actual performance I had thought we might get maybe a 15 minute medley at the end. Wrong! There's a 3 minute rendition of Sir Duke, then a bit more (can't recall what) then that is it - quite abrupt ending, I thought.

I am a massive Motown fan and I was so looking forward to it - but I was disappointed.

Actually make that 5/10.
