Given the nature of the story and of the character of Duddy Kravitz it would be something quite unique for Alan Menken. I'd be very interested in hearing it.

I'm getting into The King and I. There are lots of cast recordings to choose from? If there are any K&I fans out there, what top 3 recordings of the show would you recommend? Thanks x

I would go with the Donna Murphy Broadway revival or the recent Broadway revival with Kelli O'Hara. Both beautifully recorded. The one with Kelli has a bad King, though. Otherwise, sublime. Overall, the Donna Murphy recording is the most fabulous one I think.

Re King and I, the Julie Andrews version is also worth a listen. I also like the recent Kellie O'Hara.

What are the chances of Sunday in the park with Jake errr I mean George getting a recording?

What are the chances of Sunday in the park with Jake errr I mean George getting a recording? I reckon highly unlikely given the recency of the Menier recording and because it's my understanding that it's a charity concert/performance.

Overall, the Donna Murphy recording is the most fabulous one I think. I always thought Kelli was doing her best Elaine Paige impression on that cast recording. I rather like Ken Watanabe. When he says "come" in 'Shall We Dance' before the dance break, it makes me go all tingly. The Julie Andrews one is probably my favourite. Anna is such a Julie Andrews part and she sounds so marvellous on the recording. If only time had been played around with and the film had starred Julie and Yul Brynner, it would have been heaven.

Ken Wantanbe's diction and range is tragic... well... He is great actor though. I quite like the 1964 Lincoln Center cast recording, though it has the weakest recording of "Getting to Know You" - castalbums.org/recordings/King-And-I-The-1964-Lincoln-Center-Cast/3088/

I love the TER "First Complete Recording" with Christopher Lee and Valerie Masterson. CDTER2 1214. Do NOT buy "The Musicals Collection" two Original Broadway Cast Recordings set LC3843. The re-mastering makes it sound tinny. I've got the full Musicals collection. Some are good some are rubbish.

I think it's smart that they'll wait it out a bit. There's a surge of highly anticipated cast recordings coming out soon, like Groundhog Day, Dreamgirls, Hello Dolly, Amelie, Comet in May, and War Paint and Anastasia in June, so this will probably get lost in all of these shows that most of them either won or will be nominated for awards.

Comet came out recently, and I much prefer the Broadway version to the off-Broadway version that came out a few years ago. I don't know if it has anything to do with me having seen it already, but I really dig this.
Amelie is out, about a week before the show.
The full War Paint cast recording has leaked on the internet. It's officially out tomorrow, but there have been two preview releases already.
Anastasia is available for streaming, though three songs have been officially released as singles.
Happy listening!

Anyone got any idea when the cast recording of Sunday in the Park with George/Jake is released?

Bandstand out last night. Should I take a nap now or half way through it?

Really? I heard it's not earth shattering by any means. Good dancing perhaps, if you're into that era. But Laura Osnes annoys me to many many pieces.
