Heard a rumour at the Big Fish gala night that Paul Whitehouse is working on a musical based on the sitcom, surprised it hasn’t been done already

The real question here is whether or not Uncle Albert gets a song called 'During The War'?

Friend auditioned for a musical this week. Producers very cagey but project was "a musical based on a popular British sitcom and actors were requested to prepare pieces with a "South London accent". Not sure if it was for a workshop or full production.
EDIT: Two week workshop. Bob Mortimer also working on it.

I love me some Only Fools, its one of my old school favs, but do we have to musicalise everything that was ever on TV or in film? I get that every show is based on something for the most part, and some are successful, as well as wehaven't seen or heard anything about this one, but this isn't some mediocre film or TV show, this was legendary, and stands alone to this day. Why can't they just leave it as it was/is?!

Realistically speaking you can't have Only Fools without the iconic jokes and scenes, I'm really interested to see if/how they attempt to do this.

Not to mention the iconic cast. Does anyone really want to see anybody other than David Jason and Nick Lyndhust as these characters? I suspect not.
It’s like that tour they did of Dinnerladies some years ago. Sold on the strength of Shobna Gulati and the bloke who played the canteen manager with the rest of the cast being vague lookee-likees of the original cast. Dreadful. That was another interval departure. The person I was with described it as “sacrilege” lol.

Workshop performance was today and very well received. Several West End names taking part, but won't say who in case they aren't cast in the final product. Will say that Ceebee will be VERY happy with the score though.

Quite why the needed to make the recent film version I will never know. Somethings are best left alone.

Some things as well lend themselves to the format they were successful in. Only Fools was a near-perfect example of the TV sitcom. You can't then expect it to 'translate' into other formats and keep the magic.
Is it also a bit 'of it's time' as well- don't get me wrong I adore it, it's STILL hilarious but did you have to 'be there' first time around to get it? anyway the above point still stands, I don't think it'll translate nearly as well. And that's even without the loss of the actors who made it so iconic.

Also fun fact I was once in an operetta that "Trigger"'s wife (Jehane Markham) wrote.(On the Rim of the World which WNO did with their Community chorus a few years back). He came along to our end of show picnic, lovely chap!

If it marries the genius of Sullivan with the wit and musicality of Chas'n'Dave it'll tick the boxes for me. Wish I'd seen it.

Pot pourri!
This is either gonna be terrible, or totally Creme de la Menthe. Either way, I will totally see this.
Song titles:
1. This Time Next Year 2. Rodney, You Tit 3. During The War 3. Lovely Jubbly (innit?) 4. Same Old Brand New Broom 5. On Her Deathbed
