There will be a carpet flying over The souks of London for many a year.
Let me tell you that the carpet is a wow moment, but there is a scene in there IMHO that is better and steals the shows - and mums the word.

I loved Prince Ali Make way For Prince Ali Say hey hey hey The stage is so alive for that and of course during Friend Like Me and Arabian Nights

I definitely enjoyed it more than in New York.. The leads are better and some of the groan worthy 'jokes' have gone.. It will be a hit here that's for sure. As big family entertainment , it delivers. It's not a show with real class like Matilda- but it's a lot of fun. Going again with a 'proper' audience soon so that will be the real test.

Are the leads playing the characters as Brits the way they do it with Wicked or Lion King or are they American (sans Jaffar, I suppose?)

Saw it in NYC, thought A Whole New World and Friend Like Me were spectacular and the rest was disappointing. Torn over whether to give it another chance here, will do so if people continue to say that it's better.
How does the Genie match up to James Monroe Iglehart?

Not really about Aladdin, but I had to book some wheelchair seats with carers for this yesterday and box office gave top rate service. Real consideration about the people coming and what they would need. So nice when this happens.
Must book for myself now.

Have to say Disney have marketed Aladdin really heavily but I supposed they have a marketing budget that exceeds any other theatre producers aside from Warner Bros. They must be expecting this to be a hit

It does make me happy that there's some producers around that realise that no matter how big a name the show is, it still has to be pushed!

Mormon really got the ball rolling with the presales and various ads around London as well as the £20 first preview. It'll be interesting if Hamilton has a similar approach to its marketing when it comes to London. Oddly, there hasn't been any ads or posters for Harry Potter but I guess the show is already sold out far in advance, they don't need to.

There must be an advert for Aladdin on every ad board at every station.

Video here of the set going up, which is the same as Broadway of course, but I noticed they've put up some horrible black masking on the sides! I wonder why they couldn't have just left the Prince Edward's pros arch as it is? Or decorate it better like they did with Miss Saigon.

I can't say for sure, but I suspect the black masking is hiding stuff. At a guess, a lot of speakers and perhaps part of the carpet flying rig.

It will hardly be hiding and magic carpet rig... That's halfway upstage. It will be hiding speakers. Seems a bit bizarre for it to be so epic but I'm sure there's a reason for it.

There probably isn't quite as much wing space as they need, so they just make them bigger.

Audience definitely loved it last night, mid show SO as well. Some great performances especially from the Genie, Aladdin & his 3 friends, and I think they'll get even better once they settle. I still can't get my head around the flying carpet, a true wow moment. It feels like a trick I don't want to know how they achieve as it'll ruin the magic!
