I’m looking forward to this, but does anyone else think it’s odd that they are selling it as the Broadway musical? Filmed in the UK, cast from the US, UK and Oz AFAICT. Why not badge it as “the global phenomenon”? Just feels a bit like they are taking a very US-centric view. They also took all the UK references out of the script for the filming and used the American version

To be fair I think "Dancing with Scimitars" worked better than whatever the Strictly reference they tried to shoehorn in was.

I saw the OC on Broadway and remember looking at the pictures in front of the theatre and wondering how the could hire such an old (looking?) guy to play Aladdin. Fortunately we had cheap seats and were so far in the back of the theatre that we hardly noticed during the show. ^^ With closeups and 4K picture this is going to look very strange though...

Our Aladdins were practically foetuses compared to him....DJW and Matthew Croke at least both had a youthfulness that belied their actual ages but that guy looks like he should be running a pizza stand for Tony Soprano.

Weirdly enough, this is the cast that was filmed. The Aladdin here looks more young than the advertised poster?? He does. Perhaps we’ve mistaken a different mid 40’s character for the actual Aladdin. I repent.

The majority of the leads seem be from the Broadway production hence the 'Broadway Musical' in the title. Ainsley was the Australian Aladdin and then transferred to Broadway. Rob Tripolino (Omar) was Oz too.

so when is this actually out? I thought it was September, but we're running out of September...
Also did anyone else inadvertently cringe when they saw that cast squashed together and hugging each other? My brain has been rewired!

How can 2020 be a time of embracing inclusivity and black lives matter and ageist comments like this are not acknowledged? I’d say that Disney and the entire creative team have NO issue with the casting. They had hundreds of guys they could have used. In a week when a cast member I know from a show I did killed himself.... BE KIND.

“This show has the worst wigs I’ve ever seen on stage in my life, the WORST set, and is the cheapest looking thing I think I’ve ever seen. Miscast, badly directed and DREADFUL”
...or maybe the overwhelming kindness of this? Pot, Kettle, Black Marjorie! There’s no sliding scale for what causes most offence...ageism, racism, sexism, slagging off someones hard work, accusations of miscasting. They are all damaging and I apologise if it caused anyone, including the actors involved, offence and I will perhaps choose my words more carefully in future. What will you do?

It was filmed at the Prince Edward with the London ensemble but with leads from various productions across the world. Off the top of my head they used the US tour Jasmine, Aussie Aladdin and London Genie.
