I'd be perfectly content with a cast of one: the carpet.
In all honesty though, it's not a show I'm keen on, but appreciate it has its fans and would've quite happily taken my niece to see it had she been a little older.

Do we know the cast? I'm secretly hoping for a different Aladdin. I believe it’s the most recent London cast, from what I’ve read previously. |

From earlier in the thread: It's being filmed on the 31st August. So after it closes. Not sure how tickets are being distributed, other than that my work has an internal competition going to get tickets. It is "featuring an international cast representative of the show from all over the world". I presume they're filming with the audience on the 31st, but doing all the close-ups on stage before then (to edit in), same as a lot of other recent films of stage musicals have done. I have a recollection reading somewhere else that they were mostly using the UK ensemble, but bringing in the original US leads for Aladdin and Jasmine, but I can't find a source for that now. |

From Instagram it seems Ainsley Melham was Aladdin and Isabella Mccalla was Jasmine. Jafar was Jonathan Freeman. Genie was Trevor Dion Nicholas from the London cast.

I'd assumed that would be the case. Particularly given the success of Hamilton. Aladdin might not have been as popular a show in the theatre but it fits in with the D+ target market a bit more neatly and it makes sense to capitalise on Hamilton's success.

So interestingly if you go onto the Apple TV app on your iPhone and search Aladdin, you will find a result for the recorded production of Aladdin on Disney Plus with a new promotional image. If you click on it you get redirected to the Disney Plus app but then it just says that the file cannot be found. I would expect an announcement for this very soon!

I’m looking forward to this, but does anyone else think it’s odd that they are selling it as the Broadway musical? Filmed in the UK, cast from the US, UK and Oz AFAICT. Why not badge it as “the global phenomenon”? Just feels a bit like they are taking a very US-centric view.

The Newsies recording is also called “The Broadway Musical” but was filmed in Los Angeles. |

Americans also can't see past Broadway as the home of musicals. If it wasn't a hit on Broadway... it might as well not exist.
