The Australian play Holding The Man is back in London at Above the Stag.
Based on Timothy Conigrave's book of the same name it's an interesting and moving alternative to the American AIDS narratives from the same time.
"Holding The Man charts the relationship of Tim and John from the first bursts of college love to John's eventual AIDS-related death.
Holding The Man has won multiple prizes and has been a hit in its native Australia, here in the West End, and in the States, as well as a film. Both comic and tragic, it's a beautiful study of emotion and sexuality, and of the way a couple relate to each other and to the world around them."
As I happen to have a random Sunday in London for a work thing the next day I'm going to the last performance. I did some ugly-crying at the Trafalgar Studios production a few years back (and some ogling of Simon Burke, not going to lie).

I read the title of this thread and thought Holding the Man (Above the Stag) was a euphemism, and the cheekiness had started early for a Friday - but never mind, as you were...

The play was revived last winter at Jack Studio Theatre, I found it nice, if not a bit self-indulgent. The direction was meh but Christopher Hunter and Paul-Emile Forman were outstanding in the two leading roles.

It was! they asked me to do a talk but I couldn't make it I loved the Trafalgar Studios production so I'm intrigued to see it again in a very different setting.

Yes I loved the Trafalgar Studios production. Jane Turner was so funny (when she needed to be).
I also enjoyed the film. What did everyone else think?

I forgot to comment on this after seeing it last week. I adored it- worked really well in the small space and an excellent cast of young actors. I've always had a strong relationship with this play, it was one I kept coming back to time and again during my PhD. For those so inclined I recomend Conigrave's book that the play is based on. Longer waffle on the blog for those inclined thenerdytheatre.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/holding-man-some-thoughts-not-review.html
