My laptop may be having a bad day as couldn't find it on the website or by Googling and that link doesn't say anything about concessions when I click on it, how strange! In any event thank you very much for your help I've now booked Never seen Barnum before so interested to see what it's like. |

Oh weird, I see it's not working. Never mind, it's under "About Us" then "Access / Concessions" (then right at the bottom 'cos the page is ALL about access with concessions only coming in really at the end).

You seem to be saying you're not strictly entitled to the concession seats, so either your avatar is a filthy lie or you... well, sorry to say, aren't looking that great for someone who is younger than 65. Either way, I hope no one takes your advice, 'cos it's pretty damn classless to be taking a concession seat that's designed for someone who needs it, and there's only a £3 saving from a standard seat if you book now, so it's not like it's the difference between being able to afford a show at all or having to miss out all together (and if £3 really does make *that* much difference, please - for your own financial security - reconsider whether you need to be spending ~£40 on a theatre ticket at all). |

I like the way they're direct, and they have that no-nonsense approach. You very often say what many of us would like to but don't, and a lot of the time I'm with you. BUT sorry, I'm not with you on this one... Many of us claim concession prices for all sorts of reasons, and we rely on the fact that most of you don't abuse the systems in place. Because if the systems become abused, it is us who will lose out in the end when they stop concessions altogether. If this were to happen, my theatre-going days would be over.  Many individual theatres and an increasing number of the larger theatre groups and organisations are now putting measures in place to ensure that those of you who really aren't entitled can't take advantage. And those of us who are will soon be able to enjoy new privileges like booking online to claim our discount which is something most theatres won't allow unless they already have a registration procedure in place. At the moment most will only allow us to book by 'phone. Can you imagine having to call the theatre each time you want to go... hours waiting, calling an expensive number to wait for an operator who never seems to answer...and all the while listening to someone like Marti Webb belt out Take That Look Off Your Face, sometimes five, six times over? I'm not joking... So please, don't abuse it and spoil it for some of us who really do need a discount or have specific seating needs. I agree with you that the Menier has become ridicuously overpriced in recent years. I used to go to loads of their stuff. But now I don't want to pay their prices, and with a half-hearted nod to concession prices (what is it, a couple of quid off top price?) I stay away. As you've said yourself in the past, it works out cheaper to go once the show has transferred to the West End! And you're better off in the westendwendy! |

I usually do book for the musicals at the Menier ('She Loves Me' and 'Assassins' were two of my favourite theatre experiences of the last couple of years) but 'Barnum' doesn't strike me as being in their league as a musical and with no casting announcement and what seems to me to be slightly higher prices.....I haven't booked today and will see if there are any offers later. If not, I may well be kicking myself but can accept that possibility.
