i don't know about Andy Karl being a lock to win the Olivier, Groundhog Day has long closed and the buzz around Charlie Stemp pulling in a wonderful star turn that any celebrity would dream of doing in a classic British musical with a new lease of life? AND he's following in the footsteps of Tommy Steele who is beloved by many and he's pulling it off?! Sounds like something the Oliviers would want to reward, you know how they are!

I can see Groundhog Day winning Musical easily. But I'd like Charlie to win because it is an impressive perfkrmance. Not that Andy Karl isn't, I've been a fan of his for ages!

I was there and i think it was sound issues, it suddenly went a lot quieter on stage and I was fairly near the desk and am sure i overheard something like "we've lost everything up front" or something like that |

Everything tonight has been amazing, and an experience I will never forget. Not just the performance, two of my dreams came true, one of them being a dream of mine since 4 years old! I can't quite explain it, but I will later on... its just been a magical night. |

And that Tom Bateman was in the audience and came backstage to congratulate you by giving you a grope that gives new meaning to the word 'inappropriate'? Or are those just two of my dreams instead? I mean, we did end up on the stage after the show!  which as the childhood dream, to stand on a West End stage, that was a surreal moment, one of the more surreal in my life but it is truly a dream fulfilled! And also got to have drinks with the cast after the show, where I got to meet Charlie and another of my leading lady icons Emma Williams and have a lovely little chat with her about all things her! The show itself, was amazing as always, with a full standing ovation in the Dress where we were sat and very responsive audience. Theatre looked pretty full too. But whomever said a few weeks ago Charlie is giving a standard chorus boy performance, you are insane, that is all. He gives a hugely impressive performance that is truly award worthy! this is fast becoming one of my favourites in the West End! |

Saw this on Saturday and loved it. I was really impressed.
Charlie Stemp is wonderful - that part could easily get irritating and he was just lovely. Loved the banjo encore too and I thought the choreography was delightful - Stemp is a beautiful dancer and led the company really well for such a young man.
But I do agree that Andy Karl deserves the Olivier more: That part required a much greater transformation from cynical to totally dark to more hopeful at the end.
It was a really nice afternoon though.

Caught the matinee yesterday and loved it! Charlie really is a star, he had so much elegance and wonderful stage presence, not to mention a gorgeous smile! Great show!

Can't get enough of the cast recording for this at the moment. Bethany Huckle and Devon Elise Johnson's A Little Touch of Happiness is fast becoming a firm favourite but the whole score is so joyful, I love it. Really looking forward to seeing the show for a second time in June.

What's the best way of getting cheaper stalls tickets for a Saturday matinee (not arriving in London till 1pm)? All the websites I've looked at have very expensive £100+ tickets or thereabouts - is it possible to get anything cheaper at all?! Really want to see this!

There are some towards the rear of the stalls around the £49 mark, available on the show's own site, or Today tix nearer the time, but there don't seem to be many offers for this at present (and sadly a weekend matinee is never great for offers)

Agree with theatremonkey...I pitch up a lot at the box office before a show and ask (with huge charm) "if by any chance you have any day seats left?" I would say that 80% of the time I get some deal or other. They usually say we have no day seats left but I can offer you this or this. By mentioning day seats you are implying what you are prepared to spend and usually some offer is made. It may be a little more than a day seat price but always a bargain. The only time this does not work is if the theatre is genuinely almost full, then of course they have no need to discount!

Just saw this. I knew nothing about it beforehand (never seen the film). I found the plot a bit silly and predictable, which normally would be a big cross from me. But I enjoyed it sooo much!
I loved all the ensemble numbers, they were so infectiously fun! Really liked the choreography and the cast (well I love Emma Williams in everything). Very joyful. Just felt sorry for Helen!
So glad to have seen it, it's the most purely fun musical I've seen for ages.
