What a great feel good show! I'd seen Half a Sixpence before many years ago on a uk tour but had completely forgotten it. This feels like Something that will appeal to both young and old audiences, although last nights audience made me feel very young.
Charlie Stemp.... what can you say? His presence on that stage is wonderful. The technique of his dancing stands out and he gives a really wonderful performance.
Definitely worth seeing.

Thanks for the explanation about the motorcycle. I suspect a mechanic will be working hard today to get it mended... They just walked out last night.

Somewhat unplanned but the opportunity has come along to attend tonight's performance!
Yet another show I do not know too much about, not aware of it's score so I look forward to it and be nice to return to the Noel Coward and see Emma again as I adored her (and the show) 'Mrs Henderson Presents'.

I feel so sorry for this production. The advance sales are so bad they have take the balcony off sale until Saturday next week.

I feel so sorry for this production. The advance sales are so bad they have take the balcony off sale until Saturday next week. The issue is with their pricing, it's bonkers. They need to look at Show Boat, Bend It, I Can't Sing and many others which closed early...not enough people are prepared to pay top whack for brand new shoes they know nothing about. If they'd done early bookers discounted pricing (this was enough to get me to book Aladdin), or cheaper tickets for the first few weeks to get people in, or even kept the top price around the £65 rather than £75, they may have found themselves a little busier.

Totally agree. Except the top price is even higher! Currently it is 25p less than £100 and it will go up to £127.25 next week! An earlier post mentioned the balcony is not for sale for the next week, but it is now back on sale again (for a couple of performances I checked at least). I've already seen this and had a great time. It would be a shame if pricing caused this production to fail.

The lead in this is rather dreamy.

Isn't this listed as a limited run? SMart move, they can run till January as planned and no one with think it flopped.
That being said, I really want to see this show!

What a lovely evening that was getting to go along to this, wasn't planned but relished at the opportunity that sprung up earlier to see it!
It's a very enjoyable yarn and Charlie Stemp is a charmer in the lead role. Nice to see Emma Williams on the same stage again (with clothes on this time!).
Sure the story is predictable but it tells a likeable story and also gives us wonderful big ensemble numbers! I thought the set design was great and all things to me ran smoothly tonight.
It's a big shame they opted for such high prices for this that is putting people off, it's a great show that deserves an audience and it's a feel-good charmer that deserves its amazing standing ovation- it's the sort of show that will would run for years and I think a limited run is wise for a piece like this.
Looking forward to the cast album!

Very true. Also it is a production that would seem to appeal more to elderly people and theatregoers rather than a whole range of people (same with Showboat). It could be a great musical with great reviews (again like Showboat) but could just not get an audience. It is a shame but it's the way shows work nowadays. They should've done early bookers discounts or even just cheaper seats during the weekday shows. It could also be the fact that there isn't really a name in the show? I know that is so sad that names in shows can effect the sales but it just seems to be happening more often now.

That was the same with Mrs Henderson Presents though. It was marketed as limited run but people still twigged it had flopped. Again it was a decent show and didn't deserve to flop that badly - I've seen much worse!

Currently interval and I'm really enjoying this. Day seated and got front row. Stage is not massively high but a little bit of a stiff neck might occur if you are short. However fab value and would sit here again.
Charlie Stemp is great as Arthur - looking forward to the second half.

Incredible seats, especially because there's no orchestra pit, which means the actors are extremely close to you.

Enjoyed the show today, but it's a very old fashioned musical. And the tickets prices are ridiculous, especially as people don't seem to be falling over themselves to buy them.

An interesting point I just noticed is that the trailer clips on the Half a Sixpence YouTube account have amassed about 85,000 views. Now, obviously not the same level as say School of Rock on Broadway with about 800,000, but surely this would suggest people are aware of the show? If ticket sales are mediocre, could it be the style of the show, as presented by the clips, is putting people off going as the number of views and ticket sales doesn't represent a relationship that's going hand in hand yet.

Whilst 85,000 views is a respectable amount, it's not 85,000 individual views. Some fans watch show trailers on countless repeats, not forgetting all family & friends of the cast watching it over & over, sharing with friends who have no interest but who watch to see someone they know in a video, not to mention all those around the world who watch who may have a 0% possibility of making it to London to watch the show (not at those prices, anyhow), and I think you only have to watch a video for around 30 seconds for it to count as a view (granted that most clips on the Half A Sixpence YT account are 30 seconds anyway!), so I don't think we can probably correlate views and ticket sales!

Graham Norton mentioned it on his R2 show yesterday so that won't have done it any harm.

The line "rich people run the world" stopped the show cold this evening.

Saw the show on Tuesday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. All you youngsters I expect do not remember Tommy Steele making this a massive hit and going to Broadway with it. I saw the film but just too young for the show. This has very effective staging with a good use of the revolve, great ensemble numbers, excellent costumes and Charlie Stemp is a great Kipps. One thing commented on before - I felt the photographer was too much to the fore in the BIG finale number "Flash,Bang,Wallop". Its one song from the show I expect everyone knows but he just was too much in your face. Yes its an old fashioned musical but what is wrong with that? I enjoy all your reviews on the board but now and again you just want to go, relax and have an enjoyable night at the theatre, without picking holes in it. The stalls were full, don't know about upper levels. Cameron Mackintosh was with the guys in the control box, also there were Stiles and Drewe in the audience. I think Stiles and Drewe are getting into their stride now musically. The new numbers in this show blended perfectly with the old and "Willows" has some great tunes of theirs coming along as well. I would like to see this extend, as I am sure my groups would love it - before anyone says another coach load of "oldies", yes a good few are but there are also a lot of younger theatre goers coming up from Cornwall to see some of the best shows in town. Groups may not be thought of by theatres as the way forward now but we do help a lot with the cash flow!!

I see that "Half a Sixpence" is one of the shows performing for "Children In Need" next week. Unfortunately it goes out at midnight when many of the "oldies" probably will be in bed. Let's hope it is shown in the edited highlights repeat. I want this show to succeed mainly because Charlie Stemp is such an engaging performer.

I refuse to pay those prices and have told all my friends not to go and that it is a bad musical in protest.
The Elf effect needs to learn from the Harry Potters. Too expensive and you price yourself out of the market - especially if the set doesn't do loop the loop of Madonna isn't in it! (You get my drift!)

You should let your friends decide for themselves if they want to see it rather them tell them it's a bad show which it is not. They in turn could tell their friends they have heard it's bad when, in fact, none of them have seen it.
