All sorted - switched to a performance in April without fuss. Actually a better ticket too..
Mind you, strangely their emails to me are bouncing, I've never known that before.

Possibly an unanswerable question - but can anyone speculate on what the running time is likely to be? Is it a particularly long play?
Thanks

I haven't had a reply to my email to the box office so I guess I better call them up later. I hope I don't have to re-book for another preview - that was the only one I could do.

I don't know precisely but it may be Pinter's longest play. It certainly felt that way last time I saw it.

Last time it was on in London the running time was 2 hours 30.

How high will the stage be? Depends how much it smokes beforehand.

Anyone going to what is now first preview on Tuesday? Would be grateful for approx running time as going Wed and have a train back to Oxford to catch! Quite excited for this now!

I think they've just updated their site & it's saying the current approximate running time is 3 hours & 10 minutes including two 20 minute intervals. I wasn't expecting this considering it starts at 7:30pm.

Oh FFS, yet another self-indulgently long show with unnecessary extra intervals! Starting to suspect this is more about maximising bar sales rather than any artistic decision. Or perhaps the Old Vic are adopting my pre-booked toilet visit suggestion and allowing you to select which interval you'd like to have a pee in.
Digging around for info on the production at Trafalgar Studios with Jonathan Pryce a few years ago, that was 2 hours 30 minutes, as was the Michael Gambon one (which had two short intervals).

Oh for the love of all things holy, I'm getting VERY close to returning every single ticket I've booked for a show that runs over 3 hours, and telling the box office manager in no uncertain times why I am doing so. There is not a single play in the world that benefits from running for 3 hours or longer, and it's incredibly indulgent and ridiculous of directors to keep doing this.

They seem to be pushing for extra sales in all their bars, and hoping people will make a night of it rather than go to one of the other pubs/bars nearby, what with the discounted drinks on offer in Mark's Bar after the show for ticket-holders (well they did for The Master Builder, I'm presuming they'll be doing the same for this and Groundhog Day) I haven't been particularly impressed by any of the bars in the OV, what with the queueing (or lack of) and the not too plush toilets, I'll pass on interval drinks and head out sharpish at the end (particularly if it's not going to empty out until getting on for eleven o' clock).

When a show starts at 7pm I consider that fair warning in itself that I'm in for a long night but I wasn't expecting that with this one. It's more annoying that the running time is being inflated by having an additional interval but I'm guessing there's a reason for this other than simply allowing them to sell more ice cream!!

Over 3 hours? Pinter? Oh dear god it's going to be a long evening! Have tickets for tomorrow night! It is ridiculous when you dont live in London and have to get trains home! I honestly didn't think the play was that long! Perhaps the pauses are really really really long?

Previous productions have run nowhere near the 3 hour mark. Even allowing for the additional 20 minute interval, yep, it's going to be a night of LONG pauses, and I don't like ANYONE involved enough to put up with this self-indulgent idiocy.

Over 3 hours!! WTF?
I know The Crucible was long but that had Richard Armitage for heavens sake. With his lovely face and big arms and everything. Hell he even took his shirt off to have a wash for the love of Christ!
I don't believe for one minute that Timothy Spall is going to offer me anything that comes close to that to make me want to stay for any longer than an hour and a half.
Oh, those lovely arms . . . .

I reckon this show will over run every night, as having two intervals will mean that people will always be late getting back to their seats.

I'm surprised more two-interval shows don't do the Oresteia thing with a clock countdown.

The Crucible cut it's time back during the previews - when it first started audience members, caught unawares, were having to leave before the end to catch trains home.
But yes, Richard Armitage made it worth it, for many people...

Have given back ticket for tomorrow night (Wed) due to long running time. They are taking the mickey with two intervals and as I am on my own it's too boring to spend 40mins just standing around, just for the pleasure of making me much later home! I doubt they will learn from their mistake.... It's not even as though one can get out quickly at the end...takes ages to shuffle out of the Old Vic! Disappointed as was looking forward to this....

I guess we should hang on to see what innovative high concept necessitates that running time. If there isn't one, it's just highly off-putting self indulgence and pretension.
It's NOT an extra long play!
I'm getting pretty tired of the word 'theatre' equating with the word 'gruelling'. It may be big but it's not clever.

We should definitely write letters of disappointment. They'll just keep doing it if they don't realise how genuinely aggravating to audiences it is.

Where are they getting the additional 20 minutes from? Is there a first draft that has been recently found?
