Thanks to dynamic pricing just got a ticket for the matinee on September 12th, the only chance I had to see it while on a couple of days in London. Got a side stalls seat for £37.50. Can't wait. Seeing Bat out of Hell and Sylvia at the Old Vic too.

I'm just wondering if this still holds true? Kelli was nominated for a Best Actress Emmy, in the short form category. That's a category awarded at the Creative Emmy ceremony, a week before the Primetime Emmy's. Has there been an word if she plans to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles the weekend of 8/9th Sept, missing a few performances around that date, or if it's just too many shows to miss (and just too far to travel), during this short run? |

I went tonight via TodayTix rush (I got front row A18 stalls) and it was great (only had to look up for the opening scene on the boat) & Kelli was often placed on my side of the stage so was great to be so close!!
It’s been many years since I’ve seen the film but all came back to me!
It’s a lovely piece of musical theatre with a lush score and beautiful costumes.
Glad I’ve finally seen this!!

To echo Monkey "an outstanding production" and if not the best musical of all time it is certainly up there with others from the glory days. Bartlett Sher's direction was exquisite as usual and the chemistry between O'Hara and Watanabe couldn't have been better.Was only in London for a day so I'm really glad I invested my time in this.

Saw this last night - Kelli is OUSTANDING. 10/10
Broadway finest at its best. Chic, smart, beautiful and a voice of an angel.
You ALL need to see this. What a gorgeous show. Wow.....
Shame the set is nothing special apart from the boat.

I have never been to Broadway, but what the cast of The King and I delivered on Wednesday felt like my idea of "Broadway quality". Kelli O'Hara is an exceptional performer. She has so much warmth in her voice and I can't wait to see her performing in something in the future. When she sang "Hello young lovers" and "getting to know you" it felt like someone was pouring warm honey on my heart. Kelli and Ken have fantastic chemistry on stage, and he was great as the King. There were moments where I struggled with understanding what he was saying, but at least he was delivering his lines in a booming, strong voice.
Naoko Mori was great as Lady Thiang. I really enjoyed how stern and focus she was. I loved that she always had an eye on Tuptim, every time they were both on stage.
This was the first time I saw a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical live on stage and I hope it won't be the last. I sat in Stalls, row B, right in the middle and had great leg space. A lady next to me told me that the last thing she saw at the Palladium was The King and I in 1950s when she was 11 years old. I hope that one day I'll be telling someone "I've seen it in 2018 and it was marvelous".

What time of day did you get your ticket? I'm going to be in London next week, so based on all the positive reviews in this thread, I'd like to see The King and I. I've been looking at the rush tickets on TodayTix this week, and depending on what time of day I check, it sometimes says none available, but then later in the day they have availability again. So my questions is, do better seats become available later in the day on TodayTix if they remain unsold via the theatre? Sorry if this has been discussed earlier in the thread. |

Just come out of tonight's performance. Well, I had extremely high expectations for this which weren't met on a number of levels, although on the whole I enjoyed it. The good... The children are fantastic; talented and just adorable. The orchestra sounds marvellous and it is very well conducted. The sound balance is superb. All principals (apart from the King) sing and act really well. Kelli o' Hara was just superb in every way. I can't think of Anna being better performed today. The not so good... It's a very basic production. I expected something more sumptuous at The Palladium. It looked no better than the recent Kiss me Kate. Scene changes were quite clunky too. The dialogue portions dragged a bit, it needs more pace. The biggest let down is Ken Watanabe as the King. He seriously lacks charisma and there was no frisson in the scenes between him and Anna. His dialogue wasn't clear a lot of the time and I missed some of his lines. So a bit disappointing, but it's worth seeing for Kelli's performance alone. btw, on this extremely hot day The Palladium was fabulously cool! You are being a bit harsh on the production, I assume the set is the one used on the US Tour and will go out to Toronto next, You cannot build a glittering set for just a 3 month run, aside you have one of the best female sopranos in the world to enjoy along with Audra McDonald, saw Kelli again tonight and she is incredible, in one of the best musicals written - I left the theatre on cloud 99. Not picking on you tmesis as a fair few have complained about the set and wanted to put a bit of logic out there, well from my perspective. |

I'm coming to London especially to see this and am very much looking forward to this production. I am even tempted to book a second performance as I would hate to miss Kelli O'Hara perform.

What you pay is irrelevant to what the set is going to be, the set is there to serve the book and make it look realistic nothing more, which this set just does that. As said you are not going to get something with pieces being flown in and out for just a 3 month run. Another good example would be the Titanic tour, completely different from Titanic on Broadway, where they tried to put the ship on stage. Some of the best sets are where you have a suggestion of a piece and let your imagination do the rest. We are very lucky to have this production in the West End. |
