I do know there were auditions for this, but around just over a year ago. Maybe this long-rumoured transfer will finally happen?!

Would work as a limited season I suppose.

It will be a limited season though because haven't Qdos secured the palladium for panto in 2017 AND 2018 ?

18 years after the last revival at the Palladium (which I saw on tour, aged 8). God that makes me feel old!...
Sounds like it could work as a limited run. But was BIG actually ever rumored for the Palladium also? Pretty sure it was mentioned on here (although maybe from me, so I could be wrong).

I would LOVE it if it happens! I've never seen the King & I but absolutely love the score.

Yes panto 2018/19 is contracted so it would have to be finished up by November.

Kelli would be a real treat to come over too.

Laura Michelle Kelly is touring with this production so could it possibly be her rather than Kelli?

It's pretty unusual to bring the touring lead when announcing a new major production. Brits love it when American stars come over (despite the fact that she's not really known in the UK). She also won the Tony for this, so it makes sense for them to bring her over and hope for her to win an Olivier. Plus, didn't Laura sort of allude to the fact that she enjoys working in the US more than the UK?

Someone please cast Caroline Sheen as Kelli's alternate - she'd be a great Anna! I remember Claire Moore and Elaine Paige in this at the Palladium!

Oh, God no. Caroline Sheen's voice is the most grating voice on the West End.
I didn't realize Claire Moore was standby for Elaine. It would be fab if there was a separate studio recording of her singing the Anna songs as they did with Christine in Phantom.

Bring Back La Paige! It was so much fun watching her fight for dear life to get out of that gigantic frock. She looked like a poor little person clinging onto a rock while the waves are crashing around them.
And Kelli O'Hara was clearly a fan too because she stole Elaine's accent for the show.

I'd happily taken Siobhan Dillon if Kelli isn't free.

She reads too young. I was actually surprised they've cast Laura Michelle Kelly in this, considering how young she reads. Siobhan is great- but I think this might be a bit of a feat for her. So far she's played mostly supporting roles or younger roles.

OK. I'm going to say it before danieljohnson14 does. If it ain't Kelli O'Hara or Marin Mazzie, it's got to be Louise Dearman surely? Unless a Strallen gets there first.

Marin isn't moving from NYC. She's getting treatment because her cancer is back. Louise is fabulous, but she's an Elphaba. I don't think she'll be given something like this unless she gets to prove herself with more mature and challenging work. Strallen has a shot. Directors love her in the US. She's earned herself a fine reputation, and her resume is hella diverse. But I think they'll import O'Hara.

And she would of had her little demon by then so she can take the maternal stuff and throw it into the role too! And that voice, well, sings for itself!

Louise is fab but all wrong for this. She's a belter, and I can't see her do a period piece at all. Plus, she's yet to prove that she's a subtle performer. She's only done big mega-musical types, or shows were she belts (brilliantly). But I think she needs to prove herself first with more serious work before she can tackle something like this.

I felt Louise did very well acting-wise in Side Show, which brings me to another contender: how about Laura Pitt-Pulford?
Also if Carolyn Maitland isn't standby Anna I will revolt.

I rather like the King & I (despite it having kids in it) and enjoyed Elaine Paige who famously looked like a frilly loo roll cover in the costumes. Also old enough I am afraid to have seen Yul Brynner at the Palladium with Virginia McKenna back in the day. He was fabulous on stage but a monster off apparently!

Love this musical. My first ever paid gig was playing sax/clarinet, aged fourteen, in the pit for a run of this show.
