Did Richard Dreyfus ever go on in The Producers or was he fired before previews began? He never performed. Wasn't there a similar drama with Henry Goodman taking over as Bialystock on Broadway?

Goodman was removed after he had been performing for about a month. It always seemed an odd choice anyway, great actor but not someone I'd have said "oh yes, that's great casting for Max"

Did Richard Dreyfus ever go on in The Producers or was he fired before previews began? Our neighbour was a drama teacher and Richard Dreyfus was giving acting classes in-between Producers rehearsals. I asked him what the gossip was, he said, "Can't sing, can't dance".

Is Kelsey Grammar a draw, really? Especially outside the US? Let's get real, he was barely an entity during Frasier, I'm surprised he's even capable of finding work. The Grammar/Boe combination is a bit strange. They both change the dynamic of the show and suddenly to me, it feels very middle aged plus. At least there was decent contrast between Grammar and Morrison and Yazbeck.

The one time I saw Finding Neverland, Anthony Warlow and Matthew Morrison were the male leads, and other than Frohman's entrance created for applause (which Warlow didn't get other than in a few theatre nerds' minds, including mine), I didn't feel like anything was missing or askew not having a TV/film star in the role.
Grammer probably was/is a draw to the parents of kids begging to see Matthew Morrison since they loved him in Glee, but Grammer/Boe? I think you're right, and I should probably try to see them together on Broadway...

I see your point about the parents of Glee fans, but realistically, the Grammer fan-base would probably be around 60, and parents of Glee-heads are probably in their early-mid fifteen. I don't know..I honestly don't remember if I am making this up or if it's true, but I think I saw Grammar do Hamlet (or Macbeth?!) way back when in the early 2000s when I was in college. He did a short pre-Broadway run of it in Boston before going to Broadway. I don't even know if it made it as far as Broadway. But yea, goes to show you how much of an impression he made since I don't remember if I actually attended or if I just saw the posters.

I seriously don't understand why this is coming to the West End. It's not a great show, end of. Personally I found the set horrible to look at, the songs pretty lackluster (bar one or two - I'm looking at you Laura Michelle Kelly) and as an overall show it just lacked a proper spark. I guess it just bothers me when there's so many other shows I'd rather see come to the WestEnd that aren't.

Won't be the first, won't be the last, seanmcdona. I like a few songs. I was excited about the Leicester production as well, but was let down and can basically say the same things you said about that incarnation. Set, costumes, lighting was all fantastic, but I couldn't have said it better than you did. There absolutely was no spark. I know that many would disagree, because I know that there are some members here who adored the Leicester version. I was bored out of my wits when I saw it.

I am 28 and I know who he is. I've seen him in things. I watched Frasier and still do. I would be intrigued to see him in FN. I think to say people interested in him would be about 60 isn't that correct...

Kelsey has just extended for an extra week until April 3... with the rumours of closure, could this well be the closing week of the show and he is extending because there is no reason to find a new person for one week?

Is Kelsey Grammar a draw, really? Especially outside the US? Let's get real Kelsey Grammer has my undying loyalty, as the best character in The Simpsons, Sideshow Bob. His rendition of "Vesti la giubba" from Pagliacci was great, but nothing tops his abridged version of the entire score of H.M.S. Pinafore in the Cape Feare episode. Massive draw for me! ?

I'm amazed he's even in talks to open it here. His continued and prolonged absences have made it apparent he doesn't want to be in the show.
I still want Bryan Cranston. He's a producer of the show. Come open it over here!

Absence singular, no? He had one planned hiatus which went on for months longer than originally planned. Same thing happened to Alan Cumming when he opened Cabaret at Studio 54 back in the day. He had a hiatus to film Titus, and that dragged on longer than originally scheduled too. Maria Friedman took a hiatus from playing Roxie Hart to be in the filmed version of Joseph, which also wildly overran, so we got Chita Rivera for a while. Talk about a silver lining. I don't think a planned hiatus changing its duration is really an indication that he doesn't want to be in the show.

Yet it's hardly done badly on Broadway, despite negativity. We're probably going to be Gary Barlow'ed out if his other work transfers.

I think to say people interested in him would be about 60 isn't that correct... I'd happily see Grammer on a West End stage. My friends and I are very much aware of who he is and we're not quite 40 yet!

I'm 31 and very much know who he is...mainly through Frasier, which was very much 'big' still while I was a teenager, and also re-runs of Cheers. I also saw him in La Cage on Broadway which while perhaps wasn't the greatest performance ever, still us theatre folks are more than aware he did it.
He was off when I saw FN, though I wouldn't have minded the chance to see him-I actually think he's likely very good in the role-it's his sort of 'comedy' element to it.
Put it this way I'd be more interested to see him that Alfie Boe in this.

So looks like Kelsey Grammar will definitely be joining Alfie Boe in London!
I was quite a big fan of Alfie Boe since The 02, saw him in Les Mis in London, went to the DVD recording of his Bring Him Home tour, but have lost interest a bit since. However, the chance to see Kelsey Grammar is a massive draw for me. But I'm actually finding it hard to articulate just why it seems so cool that he's going to be in the West End! Yeah, he's done a few high-profile things, but it's not like he's a mega-star. Maybe it's because it's his West End debut? (I think?). And continuing from what others have said, I'm 21 and most certainly am aware and am a fan of him through Cheers, Frasier and, of course, The Simpsons. Just told my mum the news and she said it gave her goosebumps so he might have a following here yet!!
