The Girls should have gone into the Noel Coward and Finding Neverland into the Phoenix. Finding Neverland in the Phoenix could run for years and years I don't think it would run for years and years in any theatre to be honest. It isn't a really well known film and people don't really know the story and some aren't interested in how Peter Pan was made. As for The Girls, it is a British musical based on a loved film. I do think the following from Barlow will help though. I'm interested to see who they've cast and if there's a name there or not... Does it matter if people already know the story? How many very successful musicals had well-known stories before they became a musical? I'd say most successful musicals didn't have well-known stories. Famous stories may be great to sell the musical in the first few months, but it can be a curse as well because people will compare it to what they already know about the story. And I don't see why there should be a big name in it. They should just cast people who can do the job well. If it happens to be someone famous, fine. As long as they can play the role well it's okay. But I don't think they should go into it with the purpose of casting a big name.

Well said Pointone. The original Leeds/Manchester cast did an amazing job.

Yeah I totally agree regarding the "name". It would be grey to see a bunch of established West End ladies as the "girls" but what I meant is if they do cast a celeb, it would be nice to see an established actress who is known for being a good actress rather than somebody from Hollyoaks. I mean I'm all up for casting from soaps like Hollyoaks (I quite like celeb casting like that tbh) but i dont know if it would work in this show.

One role they had better be careful with is the Laura Michelle Kelly role. They had better go for MT Actress in that role rather than star. Keep Laura or bring in Louise Dearman, don't ruin that role, it is the best part in the whole show!

Was it ever explicitly confirmed that Alfie Boe will be J.M. Barrie, or was that all just speculation?

Dates for the US national tour have been announced. Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer for the London transfer.

Her and Laura are the two I have been thinking as well since Broadway, it is just a perfect pairing of role and actress. I can imagine Louise belting the hell out of All That Matters and we already know Laura is sensational in the role with the reviews and the Cast Recording etc!

I seem to remember Baz being one of the first to suggest Boe?

Yeah, I love Laura but I kind of hope she moves on to something else now so Louise can play that role. To hear Louise sing All That Matters would be heaven on earth. And it would be amazing if we could get Ramin Karimloo as Barrie

Alfie supposedly temporarily left the production in early June. They said he'd return in July, but he never did and the show just closed with Tony Yazbeck. That and the fact that many people think he's not right for the role could mean he doesn't do the show in London.

The upside to all this, Kerry Ellis will be out with Wonderland so she will be kept well away, and rightly so. I love Kerry but her voice would totally not suit this role.

I really hope that becomes true! I can't understand why he was ever matched up with the role. His singing style is completely at odds with the character of Barrie.

Its the curse of Wicked... whenever a leading lady role comes up, usually people jump at a previous Elphaba/Glinda it seems as the most likely candidates for the role. But agreed that Kerry would be completely wrong for this. Louise is probably the best suited for this role, not just of the Wicked ladies, but generally, she is one of the best we have. I could also see Gina Beck doing the role potentially come to think of Wicked ladies.

I could imagine Alfie in the Frohman/Hook role, but I just can invest in the possibility of Alfie trying to charm the audience as Barrie. I very much hope we get a new casting for that.

That and the fact that many people think he's not right for the role could mean he doesn't do the show in London. Ah that answered my question as to whether he ever re-appeared! I don't mind the man (his hardcore fans are another matter) but he just never felt a right fit for this one. And that said he does seem to have a lot of time off in any role he does as well.

But for what it's worth Daniel I completely agree that Louise is one of our finest talents and loveliest people too. She has "English Rose" written all over her.

So apparently Laura Michelle Kelly has confirmed that she will NOT join the London cast. Roll in Louise Dearman then!

It seems awfully late to announce a theatre for this, especially if it is coming in January. Has it been delayed?

I keep forgetting this is coming over. We've not had any news in ages but I look forward to hearing about the cast.
Doubt I'll see it though, as I was one of the people who saw it in NYC and despised it. As did my non theatre fan friend. That being said, some of the songs were great and if the cast is good I could see myself getting a cheap ticket, just to see if it is better upon second viewing.
Will have to look at some reviews for the Broadway production to see how well it was received. It'll be interesting to see how reviews differ (IF they do) when this comes over.

It was very badly received on Broadway.
