Interesting. I honestly don't think he's a right fit either. I feel that the score requires someone who is a bit more "pop" than Mr. Alfie. Another hottie in the role, though.

Have to say Alfie Boe doesn't seem right for this in my eyes. Happy to be proven wrong but I can't see myself rushing to get tickets if this turns out to be true. On the other hand there will be plenty of opportunities to see his understudy if his attendance rate remains the same as in Les Mis. ;-)

This seems an odd fit to me. As has been said, the score is very 'pop' and wouldn't seem to suit his voice at all and also he is older than the type of casting they seem to have gone for so far. I'd be happy to be proved wrong of course but something doesn't excite me about this if true, and i'm someone who has been very excited about it coming over.
Out of interest, what is this website the rumour has started on? Is it a well known/respected outlet that has this kind of news often and is usually legit?

I personally wouldn't like Boe in the role. It just doesn't 'click' for me. His fans are also a scary bunch (some of them) and likely to, ahem, dominate things.
I'd love Darius actually having just seen him in Funny Girl.

Boe has all the charisma of an MDF side table. Bad choice .

Just asked Baz and he says he doesn't know if it's true or who they have got but they definitely have someone already lined up...

Maybe by getting Alfie Boe in they're hoping to somehow "legitimise" the poppiness of the score, if you will. Can't say it's the sort of casting choice that'll get me through the doors, but given his fanbase, I doubt they'll miss me!

I don't think they should try and legitimise it. The score is the score. It's different, it's more modern. I like the songs personally and don't think they should try and change it.

Hmm, interesting choice if it's true. I don't think Alfie Boe would be too old, he looks a little "old" as Valjean but would probably look younger as Barrie. I also think his "Neverland" would be dreamy. Doesn't seem as weird a choice as Josh Groban doing Pierre on Broadway in the War and Peace-pop musical.
That said, I also don't really think he'd be right for the role, I can't put my finger on it why. Be happy to give him a chance though. I enjoyed the show in New York (didn't see Morrison though, his understudy was on).

Don't think he's the right fit. Would sell tickets for sure thanks to his fanbase, but as someone already mentioned, I think Hadley Fraser would be a better choice.

Oh I'd adore Hadley in this-that's exactly the kind of person I was trying to think of but failing to fit a name to.
I already upset one of his hardcore fans this morning by expressing (entirely politely) that the casting of Boe would personally put me off seeing it again.

Boe is a total no-no. Doesnt have the right voice.
Hadley Fraser and LMK would be a perfect fit for me.

If he is set to join the brodaway production at least we will have reports on what he's like in the role before it gets here. Though i thought they had only just replaced Matthew Morrison with someone just a few weeks ago?

Just listened to this for the first time. Not sure what to think. Reminded me of Mary Poppins (movie and musical). Maybe it will grow on me?

of all of the men who played/lined up to play the lead so far, Tony Yazbeck is by far the best choice as far as I'm concerned. I've never been a fan of Jeremy Jordan but I've heard clips of his singing, and he sounded amazing. Matthew M. was just way too annoying for words on Glee, and that is the only thing I can think of when I associate him with anything.

I saw Matthew Morrison and he was so unrecognizable that I didn't even think of Glee most of the time. Granted, I've only ever seen one episode of Glee.

I would also still go to see the show and give it a go, purely because I love the music. Would be interesting to hear the casting rumours for Sylvia Llewelyn-Davies.

His 'scottish' accent /attempt was truly atrocious. He'd be booed off stage here if he reprised his role. of all of the men who played/lined up to play the lead so far, Tony Yazbeck is by far the best choice as far as I'm concerned.
