Just booked this. Amusing moment when the very green clerk asked me to spell the name of the play so he could look it up on the system. So not a play about Elizabethan music making then.

How about the Gyles Brandreth Hamlet ? Giving it a miss ? I am intrigued but the dates don't work out for me. Do you think it will be interesting or gimmicky?

Or the nuclear option? Actually years since I've seen this so I may give it a whirl, depending on the reviews.

I've just booked for this too. I've never been to the Park. It looks tiny.
Also very interested that the BFI are having an Orton season in August. IMO his TV plays are his best work. Sheila Hancock and Edward Woodward in Entertaining Mr Sloane are pretty stunning - Sorry Beryl Reid didn't do it for me.

Nice theatre, nice bar etc but be warned, last time I was there a guy was 'on his phone' checking out people's bags and saw I spotted him and then vamoosed. I told the foh.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned casting for this one. Sinead Matthews and her squeaky voice will be joining Calvin Demba and Sam Frenchum for 'Loot':

I've just been to see this. It's a good production. Some shakiness with lines (it being a preview) but nothing major. Well directed giving clarity and bringing out the humour. Some proper bad languag - the 'F' word and a must if you like old dead lady nudity which is refreshing from other productions of Orton I've seen that have often been a little coy about the awfulness of the subject matter.

Tried to book for this online and the website would not let me book the seat I wanted that was available - "an error has occurred, please phone the box office". This I did and was told that the seats that were available online should not have been as they were reserved for the promoter and should have been greyed out. So tried to book and failed - really life is too short for this. My first visit to this theatre is not happening. I will see something else!

Saw this today. A good production that relies perhaps too much on the shock value of treating a dead woman's body as a prop. The director goes to great lengths in the programme to argue that Joe Orton's play is not JUST a farce - but it is just a farce. And a funny one. Whatever dark ideas lurk beneath the surface are obscured by the generalized silliness of its characters and plot. Still, a fun two hours and a very nice deadpan comic performance by the delectable Sinead Matthews.

I'd have booked for this but for Sinead Matthews. so as comments/reviews are mainly good, can anyone please advise me how large her role is? I know who she plays but can't recall much about the part. I had sworn never again to see anything else with her in the cast, but productions of Loot are so rare...

See, I feel exactly the opposite and then some, but although it's evidently OK to make positive personal remarks about actors, I know we aren't to post the other type. Hence I can't say why she infuriates me, simply that she does.

Showgirl, Ms Matthews is one of the leads so if you're immune to her charms I'd say give it a pass.

Rather upsetting drama at Loot tonight - auditorium cleared after actor collapsed on stage. Hope he's ok.

Yes, it was Sam French who plays Harry. About 10 minutes in he turned to the audience and said he wasn't feeling well, and then fainted. We were taken out the auditorium and had about a 35 minute show stop. I think most audience members were surprised that the show continued, but to his credit his performance after the break was flawless, and he delivered on the physical and verbal comedy.
I thought the show was great, but did undoubtably lose some audience momentum with the long stop. I'm just very pleased that we did end up seeing the full show, and I thought he gave a great performance.
Oh, and this meant I met fellow theatreboarder Abby, so not all was bad.

All well for this evening's performance. I really enjoyed this. We guessed the parts that had been censored, not difficult. Orton was v close to the mark wasn't he? He would not have been surprised at the goings on on today. So cleverly written makes you wonder what he would have gone on to write. I find it interesting that he and Pinter had this wonderful patter style of absurdity. The corpse brilliantly played.

Thought this was great in a grisly surreal way - one of those plays that lingers. Excellent performances all round and very impressive that Sam Frenchum carried on after fainting - you couldn't tell anything was wrong. Honestly, you've got to give actors credit, I don't know many other jobs where that wouldn't be an excuse for a day off. At the time Truscott felt like he was being played a bit over the top but on consideration I don't know how else you'd do it - it's a grotesque character and I guess you just have to go for it.
And great to meet N1David as well!
