Great news - love The Watermill (hopefully it won't be an actor/musician production.)

Fantastic news. Thanks for sharing. Made my day
It is actor musician
This could easily transfer and have a 1 month run or so in Southwark (or similar)
Now do I wear my walking boots or get a cab from the station ?!

I will be taking a trip up for this, unusual for me to go to this venue only second visit as it is off the beaten track, but once there it's a lovely place to be. Perhaps several of us we could do a impromptu outing for a matinee, then you could leave your walking boots at home?

The place is absolutely idyllic and such welcoming FOH.
A perfect venue for one of Sondheim's greatest musicals (even the actor/musician annoyance is not a deal breaker.)

Booking opens on Monday. I suspect I will be aiming for the end of the end of run in September - better availability and it won't clash with planned holidays

I'd like to see this, as ALNM is my favourite Sondheim, but unfortunately the Watermill is one of those theatres that basically inaccessible if you don't have a car & can't afford to spend a fortune on taxis. Ditto Kilworth House, who have just announced a temptingly-cast Kiss Me Kate, and pretty much every country house opera venue.
Edit: I see Kilworth House's How To Find Us page includes a helicoptor option!!!http://www.kilworthhousetheatre.co.uk/how-to-find-us/

Interestingly they have an "air" section that's different from the "helicopter" directions, so this must be for people who use their helicopter on the ground like a big draughty bus.

Thanks for the heads up - have never seen this, and I love the Watermill. Am thinking it might work on the way home from a Fiddler matinee at Chichester...

I'm more probably than not getting ahead of myself here, but as the runs of Follies and this overlap for a couple of weeks, it's really tempting. However, I google-earthed the Watermill and it appears to be in the middle of nowhere, indeed. I'm not sure my budget could cover taxi rides, but does anyone know how much it would set me back? And if walking from and back to Newbury (during daytime) is a realistic option (not in terms of the distance, but in terms of safety and not getting lost)?

Just carry a long ball of wool and leave a trail behind you. And wear full body armour.

Always a risk, but one worth taking I think

Its absolutely not in the middle of nowhere! Its about 2 miles outside Newbury so wouldnt recommend walking! I will getting train from Birmingham to Newbury via Reading then taxi, should take just over two hours. That doesnt seem bad to me😉
