I did Dan, the Broadway production I absolutely adored, although I was lucky enough to be front row both times I saw it. It seemed a lot "bigger" on Broadway.
Our London production is great though, the show itself is very strong.

Also am I right to think it wasn't done in the round like in London (both in Southwark and King's Cross) |

I'm here too, 30 minute delay and a few understudies but having seen it in October in previews it hasn't lost anything and is still one of my current faves. It's odd seeing the amount of role swapping though, recognising them from who they should be to who they are currently playing although I do enjoy that Graffiti Pete has become Graffiti Paula. Bring on the 2nd half! Did you grab a list of who was on today? Graffiti Paula is a new one on me. That actually sounds like it would work well, but would need a few changes in tracks and interactions. Wish they'd announce cast updates through @westendcovers though. Still hoping to catch a show with Michael Cortez on as Usnavi. No cast list but 4 changes announced at the start. From what I could tell, based when I saw it in October was that usual Carla was on as Vanessa, usual graffiti Pete was on as sonny I think, and I think the person who is the dance captain was on as graffiti Paula. But I'm sure there was more ensemble last time I saw so could be some missing. The gender swap you wouldn't know any different if you hadn't seen it before, just swapping the Hims for Hers etc. |

Anyone see this on Broadway, for comparison? I did in 2009. I enjoyed it but didn't love it back then but I'm blaming the fact that I wasn't sitting near the front so felt a bit distant from what was happening on stage. The dancing in the Broadway production was incredible though. I remember being completely in awe of Blackout (act 1 finale). I like the Southwark Playhouse / King's Cross Theatre production a lot more than the Broadway production but then again I think it's mainly due to not so great seats on Broadway. And no, the show wasn't done in the round on Broadway. |

I would suggest checking Sam's and Michael's twitters The first time I saw the show was in October when Sam was off sick so I saw Michael and liked him! |

However, he's usually good at answering tweets asking about planned holidays.

Now I'm not saying that I'd do it for free, but given the option to swing or cover this freaking show I'd definitely do it for free.
Buuut child labour laws prevent me from doing that until July. It's a possibility that from what I've read on this thread the entire condensed history of Eastenders will have happened to the poor cast by then.
I'm totally amazed at their perseverance though. I am convinced they sweat the equivalence of the world's oceans each day.

There's no audience participation. If you are front row centre on platform 1 you might get a bit of extra attention in one song towards the end. Nothing major and you don't actually have to do anything though.

A slight spoiler, Graffiti Pete attempts to "peddle" his "hand-designed" shirts to several audience members on Platform 2 (from my personal experience it's everyone in the rows A and B and seats 30-37) as well but as a general thing, after unsuccessfully offering them to the main characters. He gets up pretty quickly after it too, so if you turn the other way or give him a polite smile it's all part of the act. Also during "When You're Home", some of the ensemble sit down against the stairs (you'll get what I mean when you see it) and from what I could gather Sonny, Graffiti Pete and a dude in green (he has no name but he's pretty hard to miss) were eyeing up the audience. xD All in all no audience participation at all, but certain performers might choose you to focus on. |

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it, thought all the cast were really strong, which made me more sad that we had to leave as the finale began in order to catch the last train home. Shame they can't start the show any earlier because we weren't the first to start leaving either.

As far as I'm aware there isn't any on either. I could be wrong but both platforms are pretty similar and the only obstructions I had were performers coming out from the wings/dancing in the aisles/etc. The best seats if you want to avoid this are the ones in the middle. If you're super tall/have really long legs you're gonna have to fold them up a bit but not that uncomfortably. There IS enough space and you get a warning at the beginning to tuck your legs in and you can tell when someone's gonna come up and jump on stage in front of you. |

Rooftoppes is right. Good legroom in the front row but you will have to make space for performers passing by now and then. I'm quite small and my view wasn't obstructed even when a performer sat down on the edge of the stage in front of me.

The context for my visit would be a Saturday night show, so the matinee-rest rule doesn't apply!
-Did you catch any cast in the bar before they went outside?
-Are they comfortable with being stopped/ how would you approach them?
-Who tends to come out first?
-Are the cast alright with a quick chat?
-Does the bar go straight outside where the stagedoor is or do you have to find it yourself?
-Who, in your opinion, is the best to try and talk to, and who's always in a rush?

The "stage door" is a side exit that leads to the passage the audience uses too so basically if a performer leaves through there he/she will walk out through the normal entrance/exit by the box office. However, quite often the cast wil come into the foyer after the show. They often have friends in and will meet them there. General rule: Everyone I've spoken to has been lovely (Sam, Joe, Lily, Victoria - who's not there now, obviously -...). Just be respectful and you'll be fine. No guarantee they will come into the foyer, of course but I would suggest to wait there and not stand in the cold outside. Especially because they are unlikely to be in a rush if they come into the foyer. :-) And all of them are usually pretty quick - anyone who's not in the foyer 15 minutes after the show has finished has most likely left through the side exit. |
