So the current cast leave the end of this week but new cast don't start till 16th...so what happens in between? Have they even got enough existing cast left to cover all the roles in the meantime? Nothing happens. No shows during these dates!

So glad it has extended! And what an incredible run for a show that began with such a limited one!

This is great news! I only needed the show to extend into November so I could see it :-) Now, that I can finally book, what seats do people recommend?

Sorry to hear it's closing but yes, a great run. Think it's probably for the best though with all the casting issues they've had.

I'm so glad I've seen this cast again before the last change. Never seen a cast so strong. Unbelievable voices and the energy was (as they say) over 9000. Anyway I'm still thinking that Emma Kingston is one of the best performers out there. I thought it the first time I saw her as Vanessa at the Playhouse and I'm not changing my mind now. She has a fantastic career ahead. And a great performance from Dex Lee too. And I'm not the biggest fan of Benny normally.

Benny is a difficult character to like. Joe Aaron Reid was good but not that likeable. Ryan Reid and Dex Lee were much more likeable.
Emma Kingston was a revelation for me.
Have to say I'm surprised Sarah Naudi is going on to be Vanessa. I've seen her play the role and she was good but I imagine Daniela would be more fun. I guess Vanessa is more of a lead role though for her CV.
Any word on the new Daniela?

Emma for me too was a revelation, she is amazing in the role of Vanessa!
Particularly the females in the show (Emma, Gabriela, Philippa, Josie) are so strong it that it is going to be quite jarring to see them go (bar Gabriela obviously). I have never been much a fan of the Benny character, but Sonny and Usnavi are two fantastic characters and Sam particularly is just fantastic!

I'd love Victoria to come back as Daniela. I love her so much!

I would like to see her but she's busy isn't she?
It's a bit of a mess that it's going to be dark for a week and a half isn't it?!

I'd love Victoria to come back as Daniela. I love her so much! Murder Ballad is from September through December so it couldn't happen I'm afraid. I'd be intrigued to see her though, I must say. As I love Philippa so much in that role, I would want to see what Victoria was like!
Damn it Philippa, why sign up for Rent?! Just stay with this show!
Then again I suppose it is a much bigger role that could really raise her profile even further and, in my opinion, the best role in Rent!

She was so good! Loved her Diana Morales in A Chorus Line too.

Gosh, I didn't enjoy Emma when I saw her at Southwark. Nice voice but I felt like I could see her thinking about how to act next at all times. Maybe she's improved since then though? Vanessa is also my favourite character so I was just left disappointed with both her and Jade, especially following Karen Olivo.
To be honest as much as I love this production, the casting is one aspect I've had issues with. The parents and Claudia have been cast well, but out of the younger cast, I only really loved Sam, Victoria and Cleve. Victoria especially was a revelation. However, I haven't seen the newer cast at Kings Cross, just the original, as well as the original cast at Southwark.

It'll be fascinating to see who they cast.
I assume the set up will be the same with the new Camila understudying Abuela, but who'll be the new Jocasta Almgill and Sarah Naudi who cover most of the female roles?!

I was saying to some friends that the women on the cast sing like if they were doing a belting competition. In a very, very god way. Sonny to me was a very nice surprise, I loved the comic timing of the young guy. (Can't recall the name now sorry)

I have a feeling though that the actresses playing Daniela, it is not just their talents that are incredible. I think the role itself is possibly the strongest written and in this production performed role in the show, and in this production anyway, has been the best received part of the show all of the times I have seen it. Both Philippa and Victoria are so talented that no doubt their talents too have to play a part in this, but the role itself is just such a great role, everytime she is onstage, your eyes immediately draw to her, even when she is in an ensemble scene. It is just one of those great roles! I am very intrigued to see who takes over that role and if it has the same effect.

If you think about it too much, I don't think many characters are that instantly likeable.
Usnavi, Abuela, and Daniela are probably the likeable ones. (Daniela has the funniest lines, so that helps.)
Kevin is probably the least likeable although it changes depending on the actor. Benny can be extremely different depending on the actor. Vanessa is really not that likeable actually; she's just willing to ditch her friends at the drop of a hat. It's only at the end she realises what she's got. (I think we need a bit more of her backstory.)
The rest aren't really written well enough to have an opinion about.
Camila is likeable in general, but also under-written.
I'm torn with Nina. Gabriela Garcia's performance makes me want to put her in the likeable category. Lily Frazer's performance was a bit too self-pitying for my liking.
I know they've only got 2 hours 10 minutes to tell a story, but it's not the most complicated of stories in the first place.

Now that the show has extended, will there be any discount offers for the new booking period @theatremonkey?

I've tried booking some shows and they seem to be offering Restricted View seats which they never used to.

VHB played the role as Philippa has since, pretty much. I saw Philippa's first show as Daniela and she has developed it a bit since but she's not really done much different imo. Sometimes when the cast is low in numbers I feel like Philippa overacts to compensate which is a little jarring to watch. I understand the reaction but it was a little offputting as an audience member. Haven't seen a full cast show in a while though so will be looking to replace those memories this week! Anyone here going to see the last couple of shows this week?

I know they've only got 2 hours 10 minutes to tell a story, but it's not the most complicated of stories in the first place. I think that is so personal for every viewer - to find a character likable or not. Obviously, that depends on the performer, but still. For example, Nina is my fave and most likable female character and the most important one no matter who plays her. "Not written well enough"? Not for me, obviously. Also I wouldn't name Norma's Abuela "instantly likable" she is so harsh. And Eve is not likable but lovable both off and on stage, it was her who made this character important for me. And Vanessa is not "ditching friends", it is more her "trying to escape difficulties of living with mother with a drinking problem", and she can easily see her friends, just not live at the same place.
