If it was a nice full revival, I wouldn't mind it. When Joseph opened in the early 90s with Jason Donovan, it introduced a whole new generation to one of ALW's earliest works - people like me who knew all the big shows like Cats, Phantom, JCS, Evita and so on - and it was great fun. And people did have the same misgivings about Jason Donovan "the soap star and mediocre pop singer". I admit I wasn't aware that this is still touring as a cheap Kenwright production. But even so, why not try and introduce another new generation to Joseph? Nobody complained when Evita or Cats came back or that JCS keeps popping up. Nobody is forced to see it and I'd rather have a Joseph revival than more jukebox stuff like Thriller Live or Motown. To be fair I complainto myself every time that I remember 'Cats' even exists. It is simply unnacceptable to me. 😳 |

If ALW can repeat that, good for him and I look forward to seeing the show again after all these years. Philip Schofield and Darren Day concluded the run back in the '90s. It did well. As I recall the Adelphi revival did quite well too. But I think it's way too soon to bring it back again, in its identical Palladium/Adelphi form, if that's what they intend to do. Unless it's a better/more impressive version, I can't see why people in London would want to see it. Unlike Cats, it's not quite the classic worldwide phenomenon. Maybe it'll work around Christmas time. |

I doubt they could get a proper star name like Liam Payne to commit for a longer period anyway. I know I'm old and my brain is going, but I can't for the life of me remember that there was an Adelphi revival. |

Didn't see it though. The UK casting shows kinda passed me by due to lack of access to Brit-TV and lack of energy to hunt for stuff on youtube. I also didn't feel the urge to see Joseph again. Nor do I feel the urge to see it again NOW if they did bring it back with Liam Payne. Now Harry Styles, that would be another thing  |

Was an epic production; first time Joseph had a full female ensemble, large orchestra and lavish sets. And v true re JD; he got bums on seats, but the show ended up being the star. Really had a great buzz in a sold out Palladium. It was revived as the Lee Mead version, apparently as a tribute to Stephen Pimlott. Would love to see a totally new version. |

Other than starring in it myself back at school and watching the Joan Collins TV version, I have never actually seen 'Joseph and . . . ' live.
Not that I would with Liam Payne either but it strikes me that it would be box office gold if he did it. Easy money win for the Lord I'd say.

I mean, is Joseph even really a good musical? Whenever it is touring I get the temptation to see it, but I saw it once, when I was at school, an amateur production, and I just felt the show itself was just so blah.

As another said earlier the actual story is around half an hour then they sing the songs again. And again. And again.
I'm not a fan of the show at all but my Mum is, once being a Lee Mead fangirl. She's since dragged me along to see it with Craig and Keith. Both were from the ITV "any dream will do" show and we're both instantly forgettable.
Craig (the one who was sacked as it turned out he was also a porn star!) did a signing to promote it in our local shopping centre. I did feel sorry for him sat there at a table in his coloured coat in front of the shutters of the old m&s food store. I got a photo with him, especially memorable as I'd just been to the French market and had a baguette in one hand 😂

I grew up listening to the Jason Donovan/Linzi Hateley recording and absolutely loved the music - Linzi Hateley in particular gives a stunning performance on that recording. It was the first show I saw as a kid (it must've toured in the late 90s/early 00s, I don't precisely remember how old I was), I was too young to remember any details, but it sparked my love of theatre. Saw the BK your last year and was thoroughly disappointed. Joe Mcelderry had a good voice, but the production values were an insult to theatre. I was so sad that it didn't live up to my memories, so if this is going to be a new production or a revival of the praised Lee Mead production, it might just tempt me, but I'm never seeing the BK version again.
Out of interest, when did they add the additional song for the pharaoh? Can't remember what it's called, but it's not on the Hateley recording and i thought it was completely pointless when I saw the show last year - struck me that it was probably just added to extend the running time.

I think it was called Song of the King. I never paid attention to the new singles they keep on producing with the man twinks they cast recently. The Linzi Hately recording is fab, and the Laurie Beechman one is good, but only for the late and great Beechman. The Maria Freidman/Donnie Osmond filmed version is painful. He's too old for the role and has way too much make up, and Maria does not fare well being cutesy and wholesome. Give her Sondheim.
The entire thing is okay, it's more like a gimmicky, fancy, well composed, well-produced, panto (which is why I said it'll do well around Christmas). But please, the West End needs better entertainment already.

They stuck the extra song in for the Lee Mead Adelphi version - and it's on the re-release of the Palladium CD. Hope they leave it out of any future revival. Come to think of it, has BK added it in? Yes, it was definitely there in last year's tour. I agree that it should be taken out. |

I've seen Joseph more than any other musical. God only knows why but I simply just love it. Was the first I saw, I think, which probably explains. Joe is probably one of the best Joseph's I can remember, but I'd love to see Phillip Schofield do it again for some sort of gala performance...probably just me though. However, as much as I love it (and I'm going again in October, first time I've seen the same cast twice), it needs a drastic re staging because it can get quite boring. It's also too short. I'm sure it'd only be about fourteen minutes long if the entire second act wasn't a curtain call.

Song of the King is not great if you ask me. |
