excellent interview etc in today's Times with Eve Best.
She does not reveal or deny whether job of AD at Shakespeare's Globe is tempting but does say,she loves the place.
I repeat my thinking of long standing....she would be a superb choice for this role.

She is a great actress, but has she aby experience of running a theatre? Esp one which needs a lot of goodwill and a very strong post Emma rice season... (At short notice as well!)

Sam West and Daniel Evans didn't have any experience of running a theatre before they took over Sheffield Theatres. If direct experience was a requirement no new director would ever be appointed. In the scheme of things being director of the Globe is well down the scale of difficulty - half the repertoire is already defined. I think we should have more theatres run by actors, not that they would necessarily be better but just for variety. |

When they were hiring Dromgoole's replacement, the requirements were that the applicant be a director or actor of some note who would participate directly in at least one production a season. No previous building management experience required. Indeed, with everything that's gone down recently, they'd be better off without someone who *doesn't* have the experience, as the board are clearly poised to get involved with major decision-making and an experienced building manager may well find them just too THERE.

There are currently some delightful Globe "fans" commenting on the FB post sharing the Advert...if Rice's appointment has seen off even a couple of that sort I'll consider it a resounding success despite the circumstances...

I think an actress such as Eve Best would be a terrific choice for Shakespeare's Globe. She's proven her ability as an actress interpreting Shakespeare, thanks to interviews she's shown us that she's smart and if we look at her career choices, she's been pretty smart about those as well. I've no doubt this time around the Board will make sure to ask the appropriate questions about maintaining their mission statement in the choice of directors and designers for their productions. And I feel similarly about Jamie Parker ( but that's a different thread.  |

I think Eve is busy with her own acting career and commitment to take Shakespeare to third world countries. Shame, she wants to direct more and would be perfect for the job. (Except for the issue at taking the role over the hostility towards Rice's firing.)
If it's another woman I'd also go for Lucy Bailey.
