I saw Anna Maxwell Martin as Sally. I actually consider her vastly overrated on TV and in film, and her performance turned me off the "but Sally isn't supposed to be a good singer!" arguments for life. Oh goodness, I adored Anna Maxwell Martin as Sally. I thought she was glorious. Liza's Sally is legendary and I don't think she can be compared with anyone else but I think of the non-Liza Sally Bowles', Anna Maxwell Martin could well be my favourite.

Liza IS legendary as Sally Bowles, but she's not the same Sally Bowles as the original stage production. They are two different characters in different stories.
I really don't think you can compare them.

I thought Anna Maxwell Martin was sublime, best Sally ive seen. Samantha Barks probably the worst, i do like her but at the time she was just too young to handle the role.
Ill never get the appeal of Liza

Michelle Ryan as Sally was god awful, and she definitely wasn't a singer....Siobhan Dillon however, an incredible Sally acting-wise with serious vocal talent, especially in the title song.

If we're going away from Liza then what it actually needs is not some poncey West End Wendy who's played the in ensemble of various trite musicals, but some dirty, haunted looking borderline criminal slut type who couldn't give a f***.
sh*t or get off the pot.
Not that it's going to happen with BK.

Re: AMM, there's not having a voice with great range or tone ... and there's voices that are both reedy and foghornish.
I actually think Emma Stone might actually come to London with Sam Mendes and Alan Cumming. It is the West End, after all, and superstars love to "prove" themselves with extra baubles on the shelf for thea-tuh, especially as Oscar winners often price themselves out of a lot of film work and certainly out of HBO and Netflix dramas where all the good writing is.

Louise Redknapp's vocals are incredibly weak- I can't imagine her holding these tunes.
I like Will Young but casting Louise just seems wrong...
Sarah Harding all over again?

She was hideously self-conscious on SCD. Would NOT do the sexy stuff. Too mumsy.

Louise did a photoshoot recently for a fitness magazine which was similar to the old FHM stuff so didn't mind flashing the flesh again. But doing sexy dance moves is different to being photographed in what she may wear to the beach etc.

I don't mean to be cruel- I'm sure she can fake sexy dance moves, but she cannot fake a decent singing voice.

I honestly don't think Mama would give a sh*t, I certainly don't! ;-) Although i love Will Young in this, i really don't think i could put up with her to see him in it again.

"I had three long auditions to get the part. One was five hours of singing and doing the script." chirped Louise.
"Doing the script"?
Um. Ok.

The thing that gets me with this is, who EVER said LR can act? Yes, I know she did well in the dancing but this is acting. Are we supposed to overlook that fact?
Now maybe she CAN act but we don't know that do we. Give the girl a cameo in something, get her confidence up. But no, they're so desperate to cash in on SCD that they fling her into playing not just a lead part in a show but one that's iconic in every way. If she's crap there will be no hiding it. She's a fool to expose herself like that, and her agent is a fool to put her up for it.

At least in that respect Caroline Flack said she asked to be seen for the smaller role in 'Crazy For You' which a) is sensible b) even if it had been the lead it's nowhere near as iconic a role anyway.
