The West End production with Anna Maxwell Martin was brilliant and Anna was a great Sally. However the tour was redirected and wasn't quite the same as the West End version (no idea why).
I like this production but it does depend on the cast.

Wayne Sleep was absolutely hideous in it. Borderline embarrassing. Sam Barks wasn't much better, underpowered and lacking in anything approaching charisma. I'm coming to the conclusion that I haven't seen Samantha Barks in anything where I thought she was very good really but I'm sure it's just me. It was the Sleep/Barks combo that made me vow never to see Cabaret on stage again. The film was definitive. There is nothing more to say, anything further is bound to be a let down and I don't want to put myself through that. Viva Liza Over and out. I agree about the Barks/Sleep version--he actually came out of character at one point--but don't give up. There was a magnificent production at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland last year that dug up all sorts of new sidelights and was riveting from beginning to end. One kind of reeled out, thinking, "Wow! *That* was musical theatre." I'm looking forward to their "Chess" later this month.

Is this the Kenwright version that was very first seen at the Lyric in 2006? Anna Maxwell Martin was Sally and was actually brilliant. They made a CD of it which wasn't too bad. Then with every cast change came more and more 'celebrities.' Still the Rufus Norris directed and Javier de Frutos choreographed production. From what I've heard, this version had a few minor changes when it was done again with Will Young.

Then with every cast change came more and more 'celebrities.' I LOVED Anna Maxwell Martin as Sally Bowles. I thought she was just perfect. I think they should bring back Liza and Joel Grey to reprise their movie roles one last time. Liza's got her robotic hips so she could probably still do the 'Mein Herr' routine. Or at least give it a damn good go at the least.

The film was definitive. There is nothing more to say, anything further is bound to be a let down and I don't want to put myself through that. Viva Liza Over and out. Liza certainly gave an outstanding performance in the movie. How faithful it was (through no fault of hers, she did what she does best) to the character in the book and the stage musical is less clear. That the producers, writers and directors of the original West End production cast Judi Dench in the role indicate that there are other possible depictions. I always feel that Liza wouldn’t have stayed more than a couple of nights in the Kit Kat Club before either storming out or being talent-spotted for a much better job. The part of Cliff was significantly altered for the movie to fit the Hollywood mores of the time.

The film was great but it was hardly definitive. It was so cut and altered that it can only be seen as a "version" of the show. Agree completely. And for this reason, there is NO "definitive" Cabaret.

I like this production but it does depend on the cast. The last touring version (that has a stint in the Savoy) was quite a major redirect compared with the original 2006-08 run. The Ending was the same and a few other scenes but some other songs were completely restaged e.g. Tomorrow Belongs To Me/Act 1 finale. And for the last version Don't Tell Mama was staged in the background of dialogue between Clifford and other characters. That last version noticeably placed more emphasis on Cliff than Sally.

Anyone know what seats are good at the New Wimbledon Wimbledon is a huge barn, the upper circle is crazy far away (or it feels it!) so i would avoid that if you're looking for a budget ticket. The back couple of rows i the stalls are normally the same price and, because its so big, you can normally move forward a couple rows forward. the front of the dress is good, theres no overhang at the back of the dress which is good but again you do feel quote far away from it. in the stalls row J? i think it is has the isle split in front of it so unlimited legroom and no row of seats in front of you so thats nice!

In the past 5 months, I have sat on all three levels.
Upper is high and a bit of a vertigo-feeling sensation walking down the stairs, but a clear view so good on a budget.
Dress was great! Sat about 5 rowz from the back for Sister Act and it was a clear view, you didn't feel too far away. Then Row B was a brilliant view, no restriction at all and good legroom.
Stalls Row J I sat in for Evita and as said, there is a gap in the middle of the stalls, right in front of this row so you get unlimited legroom and a clear view but sit more central than too the side. It wouldn't be too severe a restriction though.
Of the three, go for either the Dress and Stalls, but if on a budget, the Upper isn't awful.

The tour will star Will Young and Louise Redknap as Sally.
Interesting. Not convinced she has the acting chops for it, but then again she did go to stage school and we have never seen her do anything like this before.
Starts September in Wimbledon

Will was fantastic in his two runs of Cabaret! I'm interested to see how Louise Redknapp gets on, I think it will be a challenge for her.

Will had good reviews last time and is a natural fit for the role. But I'm not sure about Louise - she has never done any stage work before even panto so taking on Sally is a big role. She hasn't really sung much in recent years and whilst we know she can dance, I've no idea what her acting will be like and at 42 isn't she a big old for the role. Bill cast Sam Barks at 18 in the role so he's gone to the other end of the casting range here.
But having always liked Louise since the FHM days, I'm sure a fair few casual punters will go along to see her.

I've always wanted to see Cabaret, not a massive fan of Will but he might be good in this. What's the Bibiddy-Boboddy-Bill Kenwright production like?

And I suppose we're going to be taken down the "oh no, Sally is SUPPOSED to be rubbish dontchaknow" "Judi couldn't sing in the classic sense..." line. Yaaaawn. Well Liza wasn't rubbish. And she could sing. And it was fabulous. BOYCOTT!
