I was the other way around. I didn't like the show when I saw it, but do like the CD a lot. I feel better that I may not be alone if I turn out not to like it... |

I really don't want children on my stage at all where possible. Babies are distracting in the same way that dogs are, and anyone older just comes over as a noxious li'l stage school brat, all artifice and cut-glass RP (unless playing regional). That said, they do pretty well with tempering these issues in Matilda and I have loved it every time I've seen it.

At the risk of being called a child-hater (meh what the hell people do anyway) I have a strong aversion to any childrens on stage. I don't like the show or score I'm afraid. I would say it's to do with an aversion to stage children as well but Sydney Lucas is still in my list of the best performances I've ever seen.

Tickets go on general sale for most venues tomorrow, including Leicester if you're interested in an opening night ticket.

Leicester are advertising £5 tickets on the day for 16-25, as in London! I *think* this is going to be a fixture on the whole tour.

Especially because touring venues rarely do Day seats or anything similar, so people may not realise it even exists depending on the marketing, so potentially it could be relatively straightforward to get tickets! |

Just booked for WMC, no issues with website, lots of tickets no fuss at all! Friend and I decided to give it a go, despite both being a bit 'not sure I'll love this' so went for side balconies which were a reasonable £28.
Jeez 2019....

Does anyone here know much about the laws and licencing of tours ? The breakdown for the child ensemble for this show states 'We are accepting applications from England Wales and Ireland but cannot accept any applications from Scotland due to licensing laws'.
What makes Scotland different from the others in terms of kids on tour ? Many have been in London shows and tours before.

For example, the West End productions only auditions kids from something like an hour's distance from the theatre, whereas they allow potential Matilda & Bruce's from all over the country to audition because they house them. |

Up here in Scotch-land we have outlawed child labour and it is almost impossible for weans (children) to even get a paper round.
Whereas we a led to believe that the free market Tory economics of the Southerners are all for bringing back the work houses and for sending urchins back up chimneys.
The laws are so strict here that when Blood Brothers tours they have to use adults!
Even amateur theatre productions that uses children need to apply to the local council for a licence to allow them to perform. I don't see why it would be a problem though as they are always granted. Sounds like a cop-out to me as Billy Elliot toured last year.

Casting Announced.
Craig Els has been cast as Trunchball for the UK tour. Great work there imo. He's played Trunchball in London for 3 years, and I've seen him twice, sterling actor and he really carries the show! Its great to see a UK tour get a Wendy principal actor out on the run.
Carly Thoms as Miss Honey, Sebastien Torkia as Mr Wormwood and Rebecca Thornhill as Mrs Wormwood.
Still, wont be going as a result of extortionate ticket prices.
