Has it been decided who is taking over for Amber? No, not yet.

I'd love it if they got Bre Jackson as one of the Effie alternates, she's currently Effie in the korean production, and was recently Celie understudy in The Color Purple on Broadway, she's got a fantastic voice.
Always thought Jade Ewen could be a future Deena if she wasn't in Aladdin.

^ I don't remember if it was Bre who I saw on YouTube a few weeks ago, but yes- the Korean concert version of Dreamgirls has some killer vocals.
I think this would be a big case of Book of Mormon casting- I think they'll import a lot of Americans for some of the leads. Same director, after all.

I hope this doesn't happen - I found her to be weak and distinctly average in Aladdin and don't think she has the vocal chops for Deena.

I really don't like her in Aladdin, but her voice was significantly better in In The Heights! Her diction is an issue regardless.

Is that the audience wanting Amber, or the producers liking Marisha?

Marisha gets full time Effie when Amber leaves? If it's that then sure Karen didn't expect anything else. Or maybe SF has drafted someone else in as first alternative Maybe Ruth is.....ready??

There is definitely a show to be written about the backstage of Dreamgirls at this theatre!

And I Am Telling You would still be an appropriate song for this potential musical.

Or maybe SF has drafted someone else in as first alternative I know this is pure speculation but with what I've read about the backstage shenanigans of this show it wouldn't surprise me. Also, is SF a bit of a dick? Seems like it. Karen was fantastic when I saw her and I think the producers need to realise this. She seems to be tainted by her few couple of performances then they drafted in Marisha who has already played the role before so obviously is going to be more comfortable.

^^ this
SF does seem to court controversy. Let's not forget the speedy exit of thingy doo-dah who played Lorel initially. Unexplained.
Also the number of actors actors actually vying to play Effie, that seems destined to result in bad feeling and people feeling 'overlooked'.
Karen was fabulous when I saw her a couple of weeks ago. She killed it.
Can't speak for Marisha but that WEL video ain't good. Yes, I know we're not supposed to take that as a representation of her performance but...
I think there may be more drama to come...

The original Lorel left because of health concerns.

Yes, I know we're not supposed to take that as a representation of her performance but... I think there may be more drama to come... Did you see Marisha's Sunday WEL set? It was like a different person singing, definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it for her I Am Changing (and her duet with Rachel Tucker). As you said, I know we're not supposed to take WEL as a representation of the actors' performances but for me Karen's One Night Only was weak. Weaker than Marisha's and I am telling you, but I do have a bit of a soft spot for her and have seen her kill it twice in the Savoy (though I will freely admit Marisha wasn't on form at WEL).

WEL isn't kind to performers with sound issues, performing "cold", open air concert/festival vibe rather than a theatricl experience. So it is unfair to judge a performance on the basis of this alone.
I have seen both Amber and Marisha in performance at the Savoy and I can say that both are incredible live. Amber has the "better" voice, but is not especially a strong actress but has the "star quality". Marisha (IMO) is the better actress and is very emotional vocally - really digging deep with the vocals, but hasn't got the "voice" of Amber. At the interval after AIATY the interval chat was buzz of " how does she do that every night?" To which I thought "she doesn't". I would think Marisha would struggle to deliver the performance I saw every night.

I sat in the front row and it was fine. You miss feet but it's great to see the facial expressions.
