He would make a fantastic Curtis. It's not as if the role is a big sing. We already know he has music in him from his DJ background too.

^ I used to work for an events management company in Chicago in 2003 and my boss personally knew him and used to hire him for some gigs. He was already known back then but not quite A-list as he is now. Nice nice guy.
However, in this production I feel that he might be a bit of a mismatch to Ms. Amber. There's quite an age difference. I think they might have to be a bit more consistent in terms of casting.

Amber Riley is 30 and Idris Elba is 43, not that much of an age difference really. I could see it work.
They cast most of the high school "kids" in Glee with people +20 to begin with and it's now some years ago, so it's not like Amber Riley is some 17 year old spring chicken.

Only for some of the show. And when do you ever get people playing their actual age on stage anyway? If people can cope with a 28 year old Juliet or a 55 year old Lear, then a 43 year old Curtis isn't going to hurt anyone.

I think we need to pin this little fact every time the Dreamgirls thread starts a new page.

Maybe they will go for a music star for the Curtis role. If you are looking at home grown stars rather than American, maybe a Lemar? Not that he's much of a 'star' anymore but still. If not then what about another american coming over. Ne-Yo was in The Wiz TV production recently so maybe open to another musical role.

Each time I listen to Dreamgirls, think about it or visit the website, it makes me realise how much I can't wait for the production! It's going to be epic! I hope the production is new and fun.
I love how the Savoy are doing some incredible productions recently! Gyosy, G&D, Funny Girl and Dreamgirls are all shows I have or am going to see! It's defiantly the hottest theatre in town at the moment!
Anymore ideas in casting??

I love this show, so can't wait to finally see it! Amber has a great voice so I think she'll more than do the role justice. Intrigued to see who they'll cast as Deena - it's a shame Rachel John is in the Bodyguard until January as I would have loved to see her in the role!

^ TBH I think a once a week alternate gig isn't sufficient to have this poor girl regain strength and stamina to go on. I think two times a week is very fair considering how much work is required. Anyway, got my ticket booked for the first preview and SeeTickets credit for another performance with the alternate sometime in January!

Fairly early in the run then... Very wise. Same here! Did you know Amber is 30?

So Amber Riley doesn't perform on Wednesday evening and an alternate will. Wonder who that will be, probably nobody famous if it's just once a week.
Mind you can't really blame her, Eiffe is a HUGE role. She has some massive numbers and 'And I'm telling you' needs loads of energy and power.
Is a Wednesday evening a weird show for an alternate to be on?

It is a weird show to miss, I would of thought the Matinee would of made more sense for her to miss personally.

Does anyone think Cynthia Erivo will come over here to star in the show?

I doubt it. Cynthia doesn't read Dina, at all, not to mention that realistically Dina is really second to Effie, as much as they wanted to beef up the character for Beyonce in the film.
Also, the timing doesn't work. Color Purple is still killing it on Broadway, she's bound to be nominated if not win, and I would imagine she'd either hang out in the same show or do something completely different like movies or do a solo album.
I also think we need to move away from casting her in every single black role under the sun.
