The New York Times has reviewed the show, speaking very positively of Amber (comparing the reception from the audience to that of Bette and Glenn) and reviewing the production itself as positive, if a big to glitzy and glam. And notes what has been said on here about the sound and the over-yelling at times. The only supporting cast he really discusses is Adam who he says could tone down a little bit, and says Lissi's modern pop voice could be leavened out with a bit more period appropriate silkiness. He also says the ensemble and cast perhaps take the message a bit too much to heart. He makes a point of saying that it is a mostly American cast. www.nytimes.com/2017/04/30/theater/review-a-souped-up-dreamgirls-roars-in-london.html?smid=tw-nyttheater&_r=0So a postive review for the most part, and a love letter to Amber. It makes a great way for the transfer nd for Amber to go along with it. As we know, this is pretty much the only review that really matters in New York that can boost ticket sales (as well as award success and, of course, word of mouth) but its looking all good at the moment for this production. That review has annoyed me! I hate how he's said the mostly American ensemble because, correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the ensemble members are American - they're all British?! The only Americans are the 3 dreams, Marisha and Joe. As for Adam J Bernard - he shouldn't tone it down at all. The character is supposed to be OTT and funny and you can see the audience enjoy it like that! Leave it as it is Adam, you won an Olivier remember! Disagree with comments about Liisi too. Not a very good review of the show, more a review of amber

As for casting, hope Marisha is bumped up and won't be surprised if Karen stays on as the only Alternate in the show plus the usual understudy in the ensemble. Would like to see either Candace, Carly or Jocasta bumped up to main Lorell too or might be nice if Ibinabo returned to finish her run?

Goodness. All these alternates. Even the cast of 'Wicked' are looking at it and thinking it's too much.

Marisha's on tonight it seems from her Instagram story. That wasn't scheduled was it? 🤔 Nope, Amber was scheduled to be on tonight. Marisha did last night so if she is doing tonight as well, great for her!
I hope Amber is alright though, she seems to miss a fair few shows, I hope its not going to become a habit. But I have just checked my snapchat and Marisha is indeed on tonight!

I saw Amber earlier in the run and I have to say got a huge reaction from the audience throughout the show, as Marisha did not get the reaction until the end.
Marisha's rendition of AIATY was very different to Ambers - very raspy vocally, fully committed and better acted. Amazing she does not damage her voice. It did not get the reaction throughout the song that Amber did - which suited me - everyone just listened and applauded at the end.
The two highlights for me last night was the dress transformation in I am Changing which was spectacularly executed by Marisha and Listen which brought a tear to my eye. Fabulously sung by Marisha and Liisi.

Liisi's called out too in case anyone is interested so it's a Marisha/Lily show!

I was in tonight - picked up some good Row G seats for £50 on TodayTix (QLKBI if you'd be so kind!) Sonya was in tonight in the box - probably due to the double understudy, Lily particularly. Second time seeing the show and second time getting Marisha on a non-scheduled day! Should have guessed as Amber wasn't on on Saturday either. My friends always joke that I'm cursed when it comes to always seeing alternates and understudies, though in Marisha's case it's a blessing! Last time I saw her it was her first show ever in London, so this time she seemed even better! The audience were very vocal during And I Am Telling You - too much - but she deserved all the applause she received at the end because she gives hands down the rawest performance of that song I've ever seen. Lily for me was meh. Messed up a little on some of the dancing and couldn't tie her robe after the opening of Act 2 so that was a bit awkward. Vocals were good for the most part but not as good as Liisi, though her acting I really enjoyed. Last time I saw Jocasta as Lorrell, who was amazing, but Asmaret nailed it! Added a whole new layer to the character which I just loved. Other cast members all on form - Joe Aaron Reid being the exception who once again only seemed capable of two facial expressions, but I guess that's partly the direction and the character. All in all, amazing night! What a shame, I'll have to go again and hope that I'll get Amber on the third time lucky!

I saw the show last night and Marisha was wonderful. We weren't aware that Amber wasn't performing and rushed into the theatre as we were a little late so seeing that it 'wasn't Amber' did disappoint us for a split second. Marisha soon banished any doubts - she was funny, passionate and had the audience in the palm of her hand. I think the applause during AITY was the audience expressing their admiration for her chance to step into the limelight.
The other stand-out for me was Tyrone Huntley as C.C. who has the most beautiful voice.
I echo theatre's comments about Lily: it was a decent performance but at times I had problems hearing the words as her diction wasn't always the best.
I suppose Dreamgirls' biggest plus is also a potential negative - the show is Effie's, so everyone else around her seems to fade into the background.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed the show immensely and will remember Marisha's performance for a very long time.

Same cast tonight with Marisha as Effie. I sort of have no further comments to what I've said following the performance on Monday.
Shame Dreamgirls Unplugged is on Monday. I would have just missed it. grr..

Everyone drop what you're doing, Marisha is performing I Am Changing on Mellow Magic as we speak!! few flat notes in there I think that's very harsh! I was there and she was phenomenal, just heard it now also and though she nailed it. With Marisha, it's totally different to Amber, for example - it's all about the passion and the performance and not note perfection, which I'll take any day!
