I was talking about Savoy Theatre's twitter not sure if the same as FB ones. There's someone who works at the Savoy who keeps posting pictures on twitter and even he said how big the set and get in is

Forgive me if this has already been bought up previously in the thread however I was wondering given that this show is so rarely performed and has never played in London, is there any chance of a London cast recording?

I would think they'll record it. If we managed to get a non-singing version of Funny Girl recorded, I'm sure we'll get an all singing Dreamgirls with Amber Riley on it and the rest of the cast who are no nonsense singers from previous work. And though I do love live recordings, I really hope they take this to the studio because the recent live London recordings like Legally Blonde (at the Savoy!) and Kinky Boots, performances aside, have been horribly captured and practically unmixed or engineered at all. Was Funny Girl recorded live? The quality seemed fine, but I couldn't bring myself to actually listening to more than three minutes of it because of the performers on it.

Given the changes that have been made and because its the London premier, i would have thought there's a very good chance of it being recorded. Not that I need a fifth recording of Dreamgirls, but i'll get it to complete the set!

That set looks about the right size for the Savoy, i.e. not very big. I can't understand where the claims of it being "huge" are coming from.
I'm amazed this show is generating this much interest. It's an OK score (made worse by the tuneless drivel of "Listen") with two highlights. The show itself has always felt like a poorly formed mess highly dependent on a star turn. I suspect that's why it never transferred to London back in the 80s.

For anyone interested, BroadwayWorld posted a great Show People interview with Ms Jennifer Holliday. I normally love all Paul's interviews, but this one was really great and I have to say I kind of choked up at the end.

It has a fantastic score!! Sonia Friedman said in a recent interview that many producers have tried to get the rights over the years, but they were never granted for various reasons. Years ago Sharon D Clarke was rumoured to be in the running for Effie, in a production that never materialised.

I also think that's a fantastic score.
I love Sharon D Clarke but her voice rings a little too low for Effie.
I do wonder who was in Sonia's Leicester concert that no one knew about.

I was thinking the same, regarding the set. It looks Savoy standard, which is not huge. They do beautoful very well considering the size of the stage, but the sets themsrlves are never really that massive. But those photos on facebook and twitter aren't at all screaming huge just yet!

The savoy isn't massive .. so how can the sets be?! George must be still feeling post Sheridan excitement.
So excited for this- and it's a dead cert this will be recorded. It would have a much broader appeal than your average cast recording I'm sure.

It'll be the original London cast so it will surely get a recording, it wouldn't surprise me if its a live one though as that seems to be the route most shows are going down just lately

Understandable really, it's just doctoring a soundboard recording and it means they don't have to pay extra for studio time

I've honestly heard soundboards (from the 80s and 90s, mind you!) that are better recorded than the Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde OLC recordings! I think these producers need to consult with the Germans and Austrians who fabulously recorded some of their musicals live.

Whatsonstage has a rehearsal video and an interview with Casey Nichola. Man, the choreography looks tight and the boys are hot.

Anyone noticed that they're using a double instead of Amber Riley? I don't think it's one of the alternates either. Ibinabo and Liisi are clearly in the backup but Amber is not there.

After a lot of strategic pausing I think it looks most like Candace Furbert from the ensemble. Maybe she's u/s Effie?

Wouldn't be surprised if they're keeping La Riley locked up with the musical director doing endless rehearsals of I'm Telling You, I Am Changing and One Night Only.

With my obsession with understudies, I have extreme anxiety thinking how I'll be able to see both alternates and understudy while not even living in London. I already have a ticket to the first Wednesday without Amber. Not sure who will be on, and also unsure if they'll start with the alternates during previews.

Do we know who the other understudies are? Durone Stokes is u/s CC (thanks Stage School!) but that's all I'm aware of.
