After the despicable way the department I work in was treated by our (American) CEO and senior executive team, I now have the Sunday Blues. I normally enjoy my work, but I do not enjoy working for this company anymore. They might be in for a shock the next few months, and realise Europeans do not take an American approach very well, and find themselves left with only half a department. Sorry to hear this, and the health news…I hope things look up for you soon. Thank you!

A nice positive end to the working day today with being offered a promotion to the departmental management team of the lab where I work. So after a couple of weeks where it just seemed everyday was constantly firefighting problems, it is nice to have something positive to deal with. Congratulations! Thanks. Much appreciated.

After what has been a very long week in work it is great to put on my “on leave” email on and turn off the work What’s App group chat (I learnt the hard way last time I didn’t do it and got bombarded with texts at 6am 😡). As a bonus it is pay day as well. On my way now to get the train to London for what will hopefully be a great week of theatre

Someone stabbed to death downstairs last night. MPS tent, lots of tape, people in those forensic suits and masks all over. I was watching The Bear and torch lights started playing on the living room wall (first floor). Didn't think too much of it and went to bed soon after. That was about 1am. Presumably the police. That's the 3rd within 300m in a year (the other was a double), a 4th maybe 800m down the hill. Teenagers.
ETA: he was 16.

1 week and 15 shows later, that concludes my London trip. A really great week of theatre seeing lots of great stuff on stage, a bit of celeb spotting and meeting up with some board members. The decent weather was an added bonus and all the folk I booked to see on stage turned up. It’s been great London. See you at the end of the year for one final visit.

Just a quiet Sunday.
Bit of a lie in.
Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream for breakfast - or as I call it 'Celebrating my diabetes'.
1.5 hours of studying.
As my current scales told me yesterday I weighed 46.5kg, I ordered new ones which arrived today - 1.5kg lost in 10 days though. Very happy with that.
Both to prepare for my holiday and to get a healthier lifestyle, I got just under 6,500 steps in whilst it was raining.
Probably shouldn't mention I stopped for a roast dinner along the way.
Finished 'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel - took me about a third of the book to get into her style of writing, but now hooked. 'Bring Up The Bodies' and 'The Mirror and The Light' are lined up already.
My body is somewhat protesting at the increased activity.
Just going to fit in more study before bed.

I'm on strong meds, atm. Total brain fog. Can barely work out which way around my trousers go.
Do you know how you really know the're working? You start enjoying tv you've never been near before.
I'm all over Married at First Sight. Genius.

Just found out I passed my first module of my Open University course with 73%! I am so happy! Well done. Being nosy, what's your subject? I indulged myself into something I've been wanting to study for years - English Literature and Creative Writing. Has absolutely no bearing on my current career in finance. 😂 The first two years (studying part-time) is a flight through all of the Arts and Humanities, so I've touched upon arts, music, history, Classical Studies, philosophy etc.

That sounds great. There's surely a lot of crossover between finance and the arts, esp. theatre

My niece is a model and has recently done a campaign for Holland Cooper Clothing. Obviously I had a look at the website.
Now whenever I'm scrolling on other websites, my niece pops up on the adverts.
It's lovely to see her face pop up at random times of the day. 😀

I've just been to the unveiling of a blue plaque commemorating the life of Dave Godin. Who was Dave Godin, you ask, and why does he deserve a blue plaque?
Dave Godin was the person we have to thank for the expression 'Northern Soul'. I was there to thank him for sparking my interest in arthouse and world cinema. Most Wednesday afternoons, when I should have been studying, I could be found in the three-screen cinema he ran for the Council. Cinema on the rates! Those were the days.
He was actually a southerner, but saw the light. I know I'm always going on about the people I've seen in the M&S foodhall, but I really did regularly see him there, dressed all in black, from the peak of his Kangol cap to the sole of his DMs.
Despite the cold, there were hundreds of us there. Many looking particularly stylish. It's going to be on the TV, and everything!

After over a week of loud fireworks going off every night until about 1am I posted something on our local Facebook group at the weekend which was quite tongue in cheek asking what the celebration was that night. Leftover bonfire night, a late Diwali or an early NYE. I was astonished by the amount of abuse I got from People with someone even calling me a "snowflake". To be honest I didn't really know what that meant so Googled it and I thought it was quite offensive. I then deleted the post. My anger is that people who decide to set off fireworks randomly at 1am are not showing consideration for others but, more importantly, its terrifying for all the pets and wildlife. Have I over reacted?

Just heard two really loud booms, followed by loads of smaller ones. I’m at the point where I say just ban them. Still have organised displays by all means, but not sell them to the general public.

I have to hand in an assignment tomorrow.1200 words on what we can learn about Roman culture from studying sources about imperial buildings.
I had the afternoon off - which I partially used to do a deepdive into the attack on the Dutch royal family in 2009, updating the Dutch Wikipedia page about Blood Brothers, cooking and trying to find a cheaper hotel in Leeds for the first Saturday in December.
So obviously I've only just started writing now with all those urgent priorities. Nearly 9.40pm I've done 139 words. 😂
(The Dutch royal family was unharmed by the way, but seven spectators died as a car ploughed through the crowds, narrowly missing the royal coach. If you want a look, please be warned the images are graphic, and was broadcast live on TV at the time. It also happened in front of the press stand.)

Reminds me of burning the midnight oil in my student days! Mind you, we didn’t have wordprocessors, t’internet or AI back then. Good luck 😉

In a word No! People can be so selfish not thinking how their behaviour impacts on others. Fireworks at 1am is not on.

Real “first world problem” this, but I booked some tickets for a show last week. It has a few different principal casts, so I booked two consecutive performances in the hope of getting to see the one I wanted. One was near the front, one was down the back of the stalls as that was all that was left.
Kept checking the website and a return popped up, so phoned the box office to ask for a swap. First the guy couldn’t work out why I hadn’t booked two seats together, despite me saying they were for separate dates, then when the penny did drop he was like he couldn’t believe I’d booked to see the show twice.
I don’t know why, but it has ever so slightly annoyed me. It’s like when someone can’t believe you’ve gone to the theatre on your own. Maybe it’s me but I just don’t think customers should be made to feel weird about spending money with your business.

I went to look at train fares for a couple of visits to the West End in Jan. I’ll be damn lucky if I can get there and back without either an overly long train, bus, train journey to get to London and a skin of the teeth train, bus, train journey back. I’ll happily miss the Palladium Panto, can reschedule the Oliver tickets but missing or rescheduling The Tempest may prove extremely difficult, I am sick of trains!

theatremiss I completely agree with you on the trains. I've already had to put up with frequent weekend rail replacement buses due to a new station being built for over a year, and while I try to avoid booking theatre on those weekends when possible it's not always possible. I'm now very fed up to find that over Christmas signalling-related engineering is happening not just between Christmas & New Year but extending until 5th January so I'm going to have to put up with rail replacement buses twice in the first week of January.

I totally feel you pain? Sounds just like what going on on my line Salisbury-Waterloo. I could drive on the day of a matinee, but on a 2 show day I’m too tired. Plus the tickets I bought were bought way before any engineering announcements. It’s beyond ridiculous.

Plus the tickets I bought were bought way before any engineering announcements. It’s beyond ridiculous. I don't have a car so the train is my only realistic option (as the last coach leaves Victoria earlier than I'd be able to get there after most evening performances, plus it takes 3 hours). What's really annoyed me for the last year is there are 2 train lines from Cambridge to London so usually at least one would be running but the new station is being built before the lines divide so engineering for it closes both lines.

The joys of deliveries from Evri. I just got back from a night away to find my Debenhams parcel has been delivered to a bin somewhere not even on my road. I have tried to look for it in vain so now have contacted both companies. Evri have to be the worst courier company. I've had numerous problems with them over the years as well as their previous incarnation Hermes.
