Paying my car tax. The first step is a yes/no question: "Do you have a V11 form in your name?" The example image shows a form with a 16-digit number highlighted. It's nice to know how the government sees me.

Just got home from work...having started at 9.30 this morning. Not a particularly fun day - even got interrupted halfway through booking a ticket for Honeymoon in Vegas and didn't get a chance to finish the booking, so off to do that now!

Day of trying frantically to catch up with exercise, chores and admin so I can spend my usual Thursday in London seeing films and plays. Rather fed up at the end to find that the RMT have announced yet another strike on Southern, and on the day (Wed 22) when I risked booking a trip to Eastbourne to catch the tour of Northanger Abbey. Last time I ventured there also turned out to be a strike day, so it took me 6 trains and so long that I had no time for the gallery visits I'd planned, but I'll be glad if I can get there at all this time. Not sure I'd make a 3rd attempt to head for the coast, which doesn't bode well for the new CFT season.

Had a nice chat about Hamlet with a student. Seems they look at performances now, not the text to work out interpretation. Cute.

Busy and enjoyable day at work, left work for long weekend in London, got home and email from Almeida says Hamlet performance for tomorrow cancelled. Oh well, at least I am lying on settee typing this whilst my dog is fast asleep across my legs

Something odd happend this morning, my dad went to get the post and he said there was a parcel for me. I had bought a DVD yesterday and thought it be that but the delivery would be every quick and then I felt it and it was a cd. I hadn't ordered a cd so I was a bit confused. When I opened it, it was a Charlie and the chocolate factory original cast album. When had I ordered this?I thought I maybe ordered it many moons ago or it was a weird present form my parents but they said not. Then I remembered I entered a competition in encore radio to win it. I am very happy to have one it but it came as a surprise as they had not old me before or out anything in the parcel to say. I am also very happy as I never win any competitions normally. Are there any other winners on this board?
Thank you encore radio for the nice surprise

Are there any other winners on this board? Yep, many years ago I won a trip to London to see Les Mis, staying at the Grosvenor House Hotel (we got a suite too!), interval champagne then dinner at Soho Soho, courtesy of Cam Mac. Then in 2012, I won a guitar that had been used in Jersey Boys. A real one. A good one apparently. I don't play but my son has tried it and said it's fab. My son is very jealous. :-) I might pass it on to him one day.

Two weeks ago, went for a flu jab at my new Medical Practice and found that my blood pressure was sky high. It's always been pretty normal before. ( I have Chronic Kidney Disease and I've been 'observed' annually with blood samples and BP so I know it was okay as of last year.) Was given a monitor to record readings twice a day for a week, readings still in scary high range, returned results last week, heard nothing, rang surgery and got an appointment with the Nurse yesterday for another reading. Still very high, so she made me an appointment with a doctor on Monday. Oh the joys of getting old(er).

Don't get me started on my Doctor's Surgery.
As for winning, no. I don't.

Winning? Once. An award for which I collected an impressive statuette - gold plated, marble base - which I too proudly placed on a high shelf so everyone would be forced to see it. But pride goeth before a fall. Earthquake hits (this is LA), statuette tumbles and breaks in two. Not reparable. I took it as a bad sign. I was correct. The career has been tobogganing downhill ever since.
The moral? Low shelves only in a quake zone.

Spent the day looking after the homeless in a hostel including someone thinking they r a kung fu master whilst having psychotic crack episode and another trying to set fire to her room coz she thinks there are tiny bugs after her whilst high on smack!
Just got home and about to do a GIGANTIC bong whilst reading Murmering Judges (it's the only way to do Hare)

Winning - I won tickets to see the final of Any Dream Will Do in 2007. Have had a soft spot for Lee Mead ever since - he was awesome live! Have just returned from watching an afternoon of young dancers at the annual dance festival at my local theatre - there was a gorgeous character trio of little girls performing a piece as evacuees in the war. One of the girls' mothers didn't come back to collect her at the end. Brought a tear to my eye.

I entered a raffle at one of my regular pubs at Christmas and won a coffee machine. It was the first thing I've won for years.

First day without winter coat and I didn't freeze to death. Lovely. I also decided to buy some lottery tickets, so for all I know I could be rich right now.

After two days of knock-me-flat-migraine I woke up this morning not only headache-free but to find a mail from Lufthansa that they accepted my bid for an upgrade to Business Class, so I get to spend 11 hrs in the sky in a proper bed of sorts. And will be among the first in the queue at immigration in Houston. Chuffed beyond words.

Well at 8.30 I can confirm I hate people, thanks to some idiot I work with (basically why send 3 emails demanding something you could have done yourself, when, quite literally you aren't the boss of me)
I also have a long day from hell, as I get to leave my 'day job' at 1.30 hop on a train to Reading, deliver a lecture at 5, then come back...get up for work tomorrow. etc etc. Tired just thinking about it.

Ok, suddenly the fact that I missed my train and forgot to pick up breakfast doesn't seem quite so bad.
Though I do seem to be coming down with the lurgy that has been going round the office.

On the plus side I got a lift to work for once....

Amongst the Donny Osmond* fans, my friend and I got seats bang on centre next to the "rejects" - I spoke to Daniel Boys and told him how popular he was with the WOS forum, he said he'd check it out. He was lovely ... But, yes, Lee Mead live was stunning. *Donny (who performed as Joseph all over the US) was approached to be a judge on this before Dame Edna got the gig, Donny turned it down in favour of an American weekly show that did one preview and was canned. Dumb ass!

Late night Sunday, long work day Monday, looking forward to a normal-time finish and a quiet night in, when I received my TodayTix reminder that I'd booked for Buried Child last night... it is hugely to the credit of a wonderful cast that not even the hideously uncomfortable seats, the almost total lack of rake in the front rows which compromised my view and my distinct lack of sleep could conspire to spoil my enjoyment

Dumb ass! Well small world eh? Unless I remember incorrectly, wasn't Edna a judge for one of the subsequent shows? I'm sure I remember Denise (who was truly lovely - got to talk to her) John Barrowman (equally lovely - got to talk to him too) the female judge called Zoe(?) and ...um....Bill K? My biggest memory of ALW was that he spent the whole of the time between the 2 shows - on his PHONE!!! Who was he voting for? We were sitting at the back, with the long-armed camera shooting around above our heads. It was a fantastic night - really hot - did you get the delightful complimentary warm apple juice too? I have loved Graham ever since - he's the reason (along with Mel) that I occasionally delve into Let It Shine as he showed what a consummate professional he truly is. When he was near us I could actually hear the producers babbling into his earpiece whilst he was delivering live to camera. I know all presenters do this, but many do it with a stern, waxworks concentration on their face - I'm looking at you Tess*Cough*Daly! And, randomly, of the Donny era - just heard the news that David Cassidy is suffering from dementia.

I should probably mention, now I'm in a slightly better mood, that I'm going to give a talk on Rent (and other Musicals about AIDS) and I get to put up pictures of Hugh Jackman in gold trousers as legit research, so there's that.

And yes, it was John Barrowman, as my friend thanked him after the show for not running over her son in his car that week in Earls Court when he dashed into the road (duh)... Yeah, poor David Cassidy, I've seen him a couple of times here in the UK, he has a rotten attitude to his fans. Troubled life.
