This is a prime example of why my posts should not be quoted before midday, at least. That was worded very badly. I don't lose interest in a subject because it is in a different section, I will just not view or participate in the thread very often as it is somewhere I don't normally look. Then... change your browsing habits just a little bit? I don't even see how this is an issue.

I remember there was a mixed reaction when the thread section was first opened. I don't really have an issue with it, but to let everyone have a fair say I really think a vote is a very good idea.

I've lost out on the results of the last two big votes we've had (Brexit & Trump) I'd be beside myself if the horse I backed here came in last. I really don't see why it can't remain as it is, if someone can have enough foresight to start an entire thread debating about the international board, surely you can click it? It takes less effort, no?

Is it not simply that less people see them compared to UK productions, hence less discussion... that reinforces (for me!) the need to keep them separate as they would disappear too quickly off the front page of the main Musicals (or Plays) section, making them more difficult to find and less likely to generate even less discussion.
ETA: Sorry, should have read on before posting... point already well made!

Considering the low traffic in the International section, I think post about non-UK productions wouldn't necessarily compromise the UK ones or vice versa.
I also feel that there's a weird blurred line on what IS international and what isn't especially since so many shows are performed in multiple locations, and our discussions over a certain show with multiple productions might overlap.

There are certainly enough productions where even if a UK production is long-term imminent or vaguely possible (Dear Evan Hansen comes to mind) that there's enough time where it can be its own thing in the international section for the time being. If we're talking solely about one production elsewhere and not in the UK (like Mormon, Phantom, etc) it'd be nice to separate them out seeing as there are very different things to say about them.

I much prefer non-UK productions to be discussed in their own thread. As someone who doesn't travel abroad to see things and doesn't recognise from the show name that it's non-UK-based, I was finding it very frustrating to start reading, only to realise this. Time enough to discuss them in UK threads if/when they make it over here.

Late to the party for opinions on this, but I am also of the thought to get rid. In my mind, it would be easier to just have one place for Musicals, one place for Plays no matter where globally.
Also, looking over it, that section just looks a mess and other than things like Hairspray Live it is one of the least active areas on here.

But what kind of drain is it on the board if it just exists without people reading it who wouldn't read it anyway? No one is paying per category, right?

I totally agree as well.
The fact that we are talking about Side Show as a fringe show on what should be the West End thread is the same. Musicals like Finding Neverland are both West End (potentially) and Broadway.
I say merge!!!!!

Another vote for merge! Keep it simple.
I only look at musicals - ashamed to say I didn't even know the international section existed until this thread started.
If discussing a Broadway musical, can simply say so in title line. e.g. "Waitress - Broadway" etc.

My initial gut reaction was "leave the International section alone" as it's not just Broadway (with shows there likely to transfer to London at some point) but also continental productions. However, having thought about it, I'm fine with merging as long as it's clear in the title where the production takes place. I.e. a few people have been talking about 42nd Street at the Châtelet in Paris, so it's different from the upcoming production in Drury Lane, so I'd say it should have its own thread and not get muddled with the other production. But since it's an English cast, I suppose it does belong to "London" as well.
Perhaps with Broadway shows, people can start threads saying "Waitress - Broadway" as Dom suggested and once a London production is firmly announced, a new thread called "Waitress - Piccadilly Theatre" can be started for London. This would also enable a clean start after lots of speculations such as happened/is happening with Finding Neverland (and start the inevitable "which seat is best, how high is the stage" etc. questions related to a specific theatre.

I still fail to see the problem you're trying to solve by dissolving the International section. Quite the opposite: Doing so would (re-)create the problem that many of those threads would quickly disappear on the rear pages as they're not as frequently used as others in the musical section.
For the record: I'd vote for having even more subsections if that were possible.

I'd second this... we have two Wicked threads in the musicals board so merging is fine if we keep the titles, and have Wicked International Tour as a 3rd thread. It's bad enough trying to keep up with the goings on in London, it would be a nightmare to have just one thread for everything (not that merging threads has been suggested... I'm just saying!) 😝

I like the International section, I use it & look at it just as much as any other thread. Especially on taptalk, where all unread threads are together, so you don't even have to scrawl through different sections!
Michael's right that if it's merged, all those topics will get lost as they're not commented on as frequently, then people will start duplicate threads for the same shows because they couldn't find it, in fact it'll be more off a mess (even though I don't see a mess now, how can a section of a board even be a mess?!). I honestly thought it's completely harmless & doing it's job moreso than other sections. Really didn't realise it was a problem, but will go with the majority if that's what's called for!

Hairspray live was moved to the main musicals section last week because of the UK broadcast. Since then it's had pretty much zero interest and is now relegated to the second page.

Probably also worth bearing in mind that this forum has many many many more readers than contributors. I know it seems like quite a tight little community which is great but your posts are actually being enjoyed by more people than you might think. It's not just about the number of threads and replies.

Its a mess because its so damn hard to follow. I don't bother checking it, but when I do, every country is everywhere, its confusing to follow and there is just so much going on with it that i just come straight back out of it. Maybe merging it isnt the issue, the issue is cleaning it up to make it easier to follow. Like within the section, put subsections specfic to a continent. So if you are interested in a specific continent you can follow through to shows specific to that continent? And then have a seperate section specific to Broadway and a seperate one for the rest of America. Just a thought?

It's not that confusing though? There aren't that many threads, and they're all clearly labelled. I say leave International where it is; I've never been its biggest supporter, but if you don't have time to do two extra clicks to check out the International section, then you don't really have time to be hanging out on a discussion board in the first place. If there was a way to make it more prominent (move it above Opera & Dance? Put it beneath General Chat?) then that would help the people who look at a list of six boards and somehow zone out before the fifth option, diving straight into option number two before they can confuse themselves further, but honestly I don't think anything about the board itself is the problem.

In complete honesty, I barely read or go into it anyway, do what you want with it.

I like the International section. Yes, the threads are less active than those in the Musical section. But I doubt merging those two sections would change that. As a result the international threads would get lost on the rear pages. Plus I'm finding the Musical section busy enough as it is.
I agree that putting the International section in a more prominent place would be nice though.

I like it...I enjoy the emerging threads we have from our European neighbours as well as a quick place to find America specific plays/musicals/events etc. Maybe moving it up the board listings would make it more popular? Either way I don't find it an issue.

Would it be possible to pin a shortcut to International in the Musicals, Plays, and Opera & Dance sections? So if you do tend to go by medium rather than location, the option is then staring you in the face before you scroll down to the rest of the board?

Im afraid it's not possible to pin an entire section. We can only do that with individual threads.
