I was wondering would anyone be interested in getting rid of the international section? Personally I find it to be the most pointless section and threads get lost in the section. Maybe a simple online poll to decide or is it something the admins decide. Just a suggestion.

Why does it bother you? If you don't like it, don't visit it. I think it would be annoying to have all the different threads about the same shows in different countries together.
Surely it's easier to navigate the way it is now?

Valid point, I just find it frustrating that threads I would like to keep an eye on get lost in there. This is all as I said it was only a suggestion. I understand I'm Probably just being awkward. Sorry.

I agree, I'd get rid of it. Suffice to say, these are international musicals, so why not just consolidate and have one musical thread to begin with instead of making this thread London-centric.

Sorry. Hey, it's an opinion board, you're not being awkward by having one. I genuinely think it's better the way it is at the moment. I don't believe it's London-centric, it is UK-centric because it's UK based and it just so happens that there are a lot of theatres in London. If you had all musicals (across the globe) in one thread, it'd make it harder to find the thread you're looking for.

The reason we have an International section is because people were complaining that threads about shows outside the UK were getting buried under all the discussion of local shows. What specific problem do you have?

I kind of wish the Broadway stuff was merged into the musicals section. I know it is technically international but it's so linked to London, with many of the productions/actors crossing over. Like the Broadway production of Hamilton has been discussed numerous times in the musicals thread, but Gypsy with Imelda, Groundhog Day etc. have two separate threads. I don't necessarily mind as much with Broadway shows that haven't been in London in the past or have no definite plans to in the future but for the ones that have, I'd like them in this section.

Sorry. How can threads get lost there? Quite the contrary, as this section is not as busy as Musicals they don't disappear as quickly as they would if they were in the Musicals section.

Surely it's easier to navigate the way it is now? This. I think it's much better and clearer to have everything non-UK in another section. I was wondering would anyone be interested in getting rid of the international section? Personally I find it to be the most pointless section and threads get lost in the section. Maybe a simple online poll to decide or is it something the admins decide. Just a suggestion. I find Opera&Dance and especially the Plays section the most pointless sections, but that doesn't make me propose to close them as other members find them useful. No-one forces me to read them (luckily, we have other staff that do ) I kind of wish the Broadway stuff was merged into the musicals section. I know it is technically international but it's so linked to London, with many of the productions/actors crossing over. I did propose to move the Hamilton thread to international and start a new one in Musicals for the London production, but my dear colleagues outvoted me, so blame them I think the reason behind this was that this thread was already about both and it was hard to spilt it up. So basically, everything UK related (irrespective of it being London, UK tour or a regional show) into Musicals (or Plays), and everything else into International.

Oh, and shouldn't this entire thread be in the Feedback section anyway?

Are there any problems other than "I don't like having to look in different sections?" When the forum was first set up there was no International section and people kept complaining because discussions about different productions were getting tangled up in the same thread or because there were multiple threads for productions and they didn't know which one to use. Those were actual problems, so if the International section is to be removed again those problems need to be solved first

The international section is the only thing I dislike about this forum. As soon as I see a topic or post has been moved to the international section I lose all interest in it. I'm all for being organised - my email inbox has folders and sub folders galore, but if it's a musical why can't it just be in the musical section without filtering things down even more?

I fail to understand how one can lose interest in a subject or show only because it's in a different section. And why don't think about this forum as your inbox folder? As Matthew has said, many international threads would quickly disappear in the Musicals section because they are not as heavily discussed as others. Personally, I think the International section is great and I'd also support separating Musicals even more (into London, Regional and Touring) - but that proposal has already been rejected I'm afraid.

I think it's perhaps the idea that less people check those sections so there's less discussion about shows that might otherwise get some interesting comments. I know I usually just check Musicals, General Discussion and sometimes Plays if I've seen any of them. The only time I look in the others is when I see a thread of interest show up on the 'last post' section. They're just easy to forget for some reason.

This is a prime example of why my posts should not be quoted before midday, at least.
That was worded very badly. I don't lose interest in a subject because it is in a different section, I will just not view or participate in the thread very often as it is somewhere I don't normally look. 97% of my time on this forum is in the musical section. The other 3% is in the general section or looking for musicals in the international thread.
Personally, the only topics I would have in the International section would be for shows that don't have English as the first language.
I love this forum and hope no one takes my post as a personal attack on anyone who enjoys the International section, I just don't share the same opinion.

^exactly Michael.
I personally like to check the international board, but as I'm uk based and will probably not see 99% of the shows discussed on there I don't have anything useful to add to the discussion.
I get the impression that the majority of board members are in the same boat, hence the lack of activity. Therefore moving all posts into one thread will only mean international posts get buried faster.
It is a shame though. Maybe the answer it just to encourage board users to check the international board more frequently?

I see your point. Threads in the international section are often neglected. However I also see the admins' point of it being organized. Maybe making an international subsection within the musical section is an option? However this might bury the international threads even further because it's a subsection.

Yes I was just about to suggest a subforum. Those are usually listed at the top of the each section and would draw people's attention more.

Re the subforum: Our intention was to discuss international Musicals, Plays and Operas in this one section, hence one general International section rather than three international Musicals, international Plays and international Operas subsections.
Personally, I'm fine either way (that is keep it as it is or introduce three subsections), I just don't think we should move all international threads directly into musicals.

Yes, if the decision is made to make subfolders, they should definitely be divided under the right categories.

I have to admit I don't check the International section. Really, should, though.

I like the international section as it is at the moment. I often look at new activity there and am interested in the shows discussed even if I don't get to see some of them. Please don't bury it in the plays/musicals sections.

As an alternative solution perhaps the international section could be moved up a bit and come right below Plays, and before Opera and Dance? The Opera and Dance section has just 332 posts compared to 1953 for the international section. Therefore I think it would be justified to give the international section a slightly more visible place. Although it probably won't make that big a difference.
