I don't think she will either. I said so ages ago. Just imagine the focus that's going to be on her if she returns. Is she really going to be able to deal with that based on what we've seen already? Two scenarios - she returns and gets panned, she can't handle the critisism, too much negativity, "come out from behind your pussy and say that to my face" etc. She returns and gets praised to the rafters, now she can't handle "carrying the show", doesn't feel she's worth it, thinks she'll get "found out" etc etc. After she's fully recovered, I think we're going to see Sheridan return to TV work and stay there for a couple of years.

She is amazing at acting so I hope she does more work. I think the TV shows she does are just stunning. She's so so so so talented

I was recently very indiscreetly told that there may be a link between Sam Spiro's G&D departure and the need for a permanent name to finish the Funny Girl run in town. Where has this come from?

I hate to say this, but I told you so. I'm sure they must have thought of either a replacement when sh*t hit the fan. I might get a cheeky day seat to see Natacha tomorrow. Meanwhile, here is Shoshana Bean rehearsing for a regional production. link

Isn't Sam Spiro too old of at least two decades tho?

Is Samantha Spiro really a big enough name to replace Sheridan though? She's hardly sold G&D

I've no idea? Just repeating what I was told and asking if there were any inkling of truth in it? Surely they'd just keep the understudy on if they weren't casting a 'name'? Why spend the money?

Yes but Natasha Barnes has been thrown into this part at no notice and with huge media attention for almost four weeks now and it must be pretty exhausting for her. At some point she will want a break or will be ill.
Then what?

I don't think they have cast Sam as the new Fanny. Think it's all just speculation

Some guy on twitter, see earlier in the thread. As there's been no confirmation he may or may not turn out to have been lying.

She is amazing at acting so I hope she does more work. I think the TV shows she does are just stunning. She's so so so so talented I think she is very good on tv, in theatre I cannot comment, I wanted to see her on stage to see if she was worth the hype. I saw her perform at the Olivier's and wasn't impressed in the slightest, many kids I've taught dancing/theatre work to could have done a better job. On tv she will get more jobs, theatre, not going on this. There's too much money to lose in the theatre if a star cannot perform, for whatever reason. Yes her father is ill, however many people have gone through that or worse and they have had to put on their make up, tie up their shoes and put the show on. I'm sorry, but that's just how it is in the theatre, the show must go on. So I don't think producers would risk it again, especially not any time soon. Look at what happened with Martine, she was pretty much black listed afterwards.

At least Martine had the excuse that she couldnt handle doing 8 shows a week, as it was a new thing for her. Sheridan Smith has done long runs before to great success. I wonder if people will book her so readily in the future.
FWIW, Martine was fantastic as Eliza.

Anybody think she will be back after those 4 weeks (so 9th June?) Just out of curiosity George, you've asked this question probably far too many times now, and there has been and will be no definitive answer, even if you tell us you're just asking out of curiosity. Many posters on this board have tried to explain this situation to you (and others) until they're blue in the face, but not only that, many posters have indeed already answered your question, stating they don't think she'll come back, but it's obviously falling on deaf ears as it's not the answer you want to hear.
With all the love in the world, I think enough is enough.

There was no evidence to suggest she was, she'd been in a TV soap for years. Producers have to shoulder some, if not most of the responsibility when they cast an unknown quantity. Of course it's different for Sheri because she has carried shows before, but even then a duty of care is needed. Ive said it before and was pooh-poohed in the Dreamgirls thread but I'll say it again. See Amber Riley early in the run.

I presume because she had been to stage school, that she had the required training to be able to handle it. Being in a soap is long hours and hard work, but being on stage singing Eliza is something else.

Martine was fabulous in MFL. A huge shame she wasn't able to fulfill her contract for whatever reason. Sheridan too was fabulous in FG - I saw her twice at the Menier. They are/were both certain peformers that have that certain something. I used to call it the X Factor - that indefinable something extra - before the term was debased by the TV programme that is full of people who (ironicaly) have certainly not got that extra something and are instantly forgettable.
This "extra indefineable something" is what makes performers "stars" on film, TV and especially stage. The profession is full of "triple threats" who can sing, dance, act and even play instruments who are completely trained and very accomplished and talented but leave you cold, despite giving an accomplished performance.
An example of this was when I saw Michael Crawford in Billy at Drury Lane in the early 70's - he has 3 girl friends in the show and one girl who played the tarty Rita was just amazing and I said to my theatre companion - "she is amazing -there was just something about her". This young actress was called Elaine Paige! It was no surprise to me when she got the part of Evita some years later. Her performances later were just as electrifying - Cats, Chess, Piaf and of course Sunset - one of the best Normas ever!
So good wishes to Sheridan for a sucessful future career, but as I said way back in the thread I think it will be some time before she is on stage again preferring to do film and TV work which (while it has its own demands) is not so much in the public eye or needing the discipline of 8 shows a week.

It's actually interesting that the show is doing well despite Sheridan's absence. I was day seating by 9.30(ish) and there were perhaps ten people ahead of me. By the time it was my turn to buy a ticket they were all gone. Who would have thunk.

Yes but Natasha Barnes has been thrown into this part at no notice and with huge media attention for almost four weeks now and it must be pretty exhausting for her. At some point she will want a break or will be ill. Then what? Then she has an understudy. Every lead obviously has two covers, so all they would need to do (if Natasha was to be installed as a new permanent lead) would cast a new woman for either her normal track or her current understudy's usual track. Doing that or getting someone new in for the title role both equates to one new person to rehearse. Is Samantha Spiro really a big enough name to replace Sheridan though? She's hardly sold G&D You can say that again - it has not been selling well since the transfer. Let's be honest - if Guys and Dolls are now going down the "cast woman from big film to take over and boost sales" routine, is her replacee really likely to take over from a high profile name when that entire show has been marketed around one person? Wilson's fan club (I'm willing to bet) are nowhere near the target market for G&D, and definitely not closer to that market than Spiro's is. It just doesn't make sense to shove her into Funny Girl when they'd face potential bad press for passing Barnes back into the ensemble. Neither of those two are big names in the general public's eye - but arguably (if either of them) Barnes has a bigger profile right now for being "that one wot ain't Sheza". Just my tuppence - but the idea of Spiro hopping across doesn't make sense to me at all. And yes - I know Smith hasn't left the production, etc.

I can't comment on Martine as I didn't see her or the show, but I couldn't agree more about everything you say about the X Factor... Like you I saw Billy at the Drury Lane, and like you I felt completely won over by the tarty girlfriend. I wanted her to come on more and more... "Any minute now that git will show up, any minute now, Any minute now or I will throw up..." Here was someone who totally deserved her success, and she had to earn it the hard way. (There was another girlfriend who just ate oranges, and another who did something else, but I can't remember what... Wasn't one of them played by Gay Soper? I've loved her over the years too... And she's in Funny Girl!)

Right, just gonna put something out there regarding my posts on this thread. I know a lot of you posters probably find me annoying on this forum and don't like what I post a lot, so just wanted to say sorry if I've been going on about Sheridan recently. I know I've probably been annoying it's just she's my idol and I love her so much in all her TV work and I think she is amazing so I'm just staying optimistic and praying she'll be back. I think I'm trying to put off the fact she might not be back as I hate that idea. Anyway, just saying that I'm sorry if I have been annoying on this particular thread..
