Imelda Staunton did 8 shows a week in Gypsy and that's a huge role. Plus she is well into middle age.

Actually in her late 20s she was only doing six performances a week - albeit in one of the most vocally and dramatically taxing women's roles in musical theatre. Even she, I would imagine, would acknowledge that some parts simply cannot be performed eight times a week - which isn't to say that all of the current roles which have alternates fall into this category.

No one has a large role in Company besides La Craig. In fact I was quite shocked at just how many normally leading actors have taken minor roles for this show. e.g. Ben Lewis must only have a few lines before Ladies Who Lunch, and that's about it.

I guess they're doing it for the prestige...

...and for the experience of working with Marianne Elliott. That's certainly why LuPone signed up despite having previously said she probably wasn't going to take on another musical after War Paint.

And we don't that often get very high profile Sondheim revivals over here. But also given Elliott works with actors repeatedly, it's obviously a great strategic career move.

Also re: size of roles, yes Miss Patti has stamina. But it's a valid point that there are a handful of roles that the human body isn't designed to sing and act 8 times a week either. (none of which are in Company)

For £19.50, I'd take the back of the stalls.

When I rebooked my tickets for last week for performances in February and March, the back row of the stalls and the back row of the dress circle were both the same price - £27.50. For £27.50 I'd take the back of the dress circle over the back of the stalls, but if the back of the stalls is priced lower than the back row of the dress circle I'd be perfectly happy with it.

I'd take either over anywhere in the upper circle.

(I've sat in all those locations in the Gielgud, but not for this production. I saw this the first time from the dress circle slips, and my two repeat visits will both be from the back row of the dress circle, although not from the same seat.)

Patti didn't sound keen on taking Company to Broadway on Michael Ball's show, as they'd never manage to recapture the magic of this experience, which was her reason for not doing Fantine in NY. Ah well...

I wasn't sure on this listening back on my laptop speakers but now on my proper setup at home I like it a lot. Orchestrations are lush.

He was off Saturday due to a wedding he was attending so I guess from day one he was always scheduled to be off on Saturday so I would imagine he is back in now.

It was always intended to be a limited run, I imagine Fiddler or a play will go there.

I wonder if Les Mis does move to the Gielgud, which seems likely when the Queens is being refurbished, will it be a permanent move there or just temporary until the Queens is ready to have it move back?

If I recall correctly the plans were to be announced this year.

Gosh, the trailer released today is pretty poor/ uninspiring; not sure it’d sell the show to the average theatre goer unless they’ve already heard some good word of mouth, which luckily there is lots of in this case.
