Poor Alfie. I am in no way a fan and suspected he wouldn't be a good fit for this but 'a floorboard in a wig' just made me laugh so much!

Cant understand why Alex Young isn't getting more praise. Its a big stage and it was fine during the music but dragged when she wasn't on stage. Ditto! Alex Young is definitely the highlight of this production! She has a wonderful stage presence and such a beautiful voice! I enjoyed the humour she brought to Carrie, very well delivered. Her rendition of Mister Snow was beautifully sung. Also, Gavin Spokes and Derek Hagen are excellent. The ensemble are also fantastic - in particular the opening and the ballet in act 2. I have to say with the exception of one or two scenes, Katherine Jenkins definitely exceeded my expectations. Alfie Boe - his voice is great, though not suited to the role or score in my opinion, but his acting was... well... woeful. I think Nicholas Lyndhurst is great in his role - though considering his limited stage time it seems rather unfair to me that his curtain call spot is the one before Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins? I certainly enjoyed hearing the score played by a large orchestra!

I have been so amused by the reviews and intrigued by the bits and pieces of praise I have booked to see this on Friday ...

Carousel the musical at the beautiful London Coliseum Theatre last night. I hated it - what a horrible production. Katherine Jenkins couldn't act, opera singers blending with musical theatre voices don't work, Alfie Bow walked around like he was holding a barrel under his arms and had no emotional connection to any songs, the whole concept awful, other parts miscast, the set pants and the whole show left me cold. The only good thing about it was the plastic bobby horse, the cute chorus, the overpaid orchestra and the end. Haha... Not even "You'll Never Walk Alone" affected me - no tears or choking up at the end of Carousel means something is disastrously wrong. A big fat spinning merry go round boring flop. 4/10.

Musicians in major shows can earn double or almost triple ensemble members get paid. Yes I think that's overpaid - it's just because the MU musicians union is much better than actors equity!

So maybe the musicians are fairly paid and it's the actors who are underpaid and Equity need to step up!!

Oh dear, I do like little Boe (as long as it's not in Les Miz) but the comments are making me giggle.

After all the talk of who should get the final bow it seems the wig should, as it's getting all of the headlines!

With all this talk about Alfie Boe and the ENO I have been revisiting the reviews of the 2007 ENO production of Kismet in which Boe featured alongside the starring Michael Ball. I didn't see it but remember the kerfuffle at the time. Can't believe it was a decade ago.

And in operas houses all over the world the orchestral players are always on a far higher salary than chorus members.

Oooh! Anyone know who the u/s is? I might be tempted if he's off again tomorrow afternoon. Not that I wish Alfie any ill, but given the reviews here and the prices I'm not interested in seeing him.

Alfie off sick at the interval tonight with a fever! Bronchitis. Those pesky hairs from his wig are playing havoc with his chest.

To be fair to Alfie Boe his acting reminds me of the old actors in Blackadder the Third - the stance, the roar - but by the end of the Soliloquy I did think he'd nailed it on the singing front. Even more so if he was that ill. But there's no chemistry between him and Katherine Jenkins (who wasn't as bad as I feared but still has a tendency to trill with muddy diction).
The supporting cast are far better and the chorus and dance numbers are great.

I'd love to see this, despite what you all say Do! I enjoyed it, i just didn't think the two leads were strong enough. But I still had s great time, the score is sung beautifully!

I wonder if women of a certain age will be complaining about Alfie's absence!
There were histrionics at the box office last year when Glenn missed a few shows.
