I think i am sitting on the 2nd row for this on Monday. What's the view like from there? I must say this is very unusual for me, i have never sat that close in a show before, it's just not been something i fancied. But needs must with this otherwise i'd have missed out completely. We were right in the middle of the front row (C) directly behind the conductor, who is low enough in the pit so as not to obscure your view, but high enough to congratulate him afterwards and shake his hand! We couldn't actually see the revolves but saw the actors revolving... The only thing I can think of that we missed were the wheels of the model car... Rest assured you will have a blast!

Here's Tim Minchin's latest performance of 'Seeing You' from the BBC Prom in the Park tonight in the middle of the Matilda songs (Catch-up available until 10 October) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07th75j (Michael Ball's intro about 2h50m in followed by 'My House', 'Naughty' with the current Matildas, then 'Seeing You' and 'When I Grow Up' with the Matildas again) More or less the same orchestrations as the South Bank Awards performance, minus the backing singers and it cuts short, but still is nice to hear him sing part of it. I think it's one of the best songs I've heard in a musical! They just need to release it with Andy Karl now! (as well as a full cast album)

Presumably if no cast album has been recorded so far (and we'd probably have heard about it if it had) then we won't get one of this production. Once they've finished, everyone will move to different jobs in different places and it would be a nightmare to get them all in one place to record it. I know Tim said there'd be an album, but it may be a long way away from a Broadway cast.

But, if I remember rightly the Matilda cast recording was recorded between the Stratford and West End, whilst the cast were all busy doing other stuff, so there is always hope!

Caught the matinee today having swapped from Wednesday matinee. Also meant being in centre row E in stalls versus original front row dress circle. Really enjoyed the up and close view.
I thought it was brilliant from start to finish. Agree little to take away in terms of memorable tunes. There's only 2-3 strong solo numbers and the rest of songs keep the plot going and going and going and ...... My personal view is that this is exactly the way the writers approached this. So hard given the story line to keep a musical on constant repeat button. Instead they work lesser numbers into it in a way that you don't feel like you are in some kind of Groundhog Day, unlike Phil Connors, and instead it is constantly evolving and moving forward. Having a big tune constantly repeated might have detracted from the overall experience.
I thought song at start of 2nd half was perfect as it completely re-sets the scene after the break, reminding us that everything is becoming very predictable (in this case her looks and the men she attracts). It's a way of saying Phil Connors isn't the only one who experiences Groundhog Day.
As for Andy Karl, agree with all the other posters - totally brilliant. His timing, his singing, his emotions that he carries on stage - all worthy of an Olivier or two.
I can't see this failing in the West End so I hope they sort out a Broadway soon so we can get it back on a London stage.

Listening to Tim Minchin's version I can remember hearing Andy Karl singing it (and rather better than Minchin) but can't remember when. The lack of a song list in the programme & the cyclical nature of the show make it hard to remember what came when. Georgina Hagen singing "Nancy" last night Nice to see her singing it close to, though I miss the strings from the orchestrated version which I thought were lovely.

I am clearly not remembering this show at all well music-wise! I think the visuals have stuck with me more than the songs, apart from Playing Nancy.

It's the final song, and so beautiful it is too! Thanks. I am clearly not remembering this show at all well music-wise! I think the visuals have stuck with me more than the songs, apart from Playing Nancy. After Rita buys a dance with Phil the ensemble start cheering and chanting "Phil! Phil! Phil!" at which point they all freeze and he starts singing the singing the first part. The musical interlude is where they transition to the balcony and start talking about that particular day. Rita comments on the weather and Phil start doing his "cold weather front mixing with the warm air in the north" schtick when she kisses him, which is the key change. They then sing the refrain again together and run off around halfway through the last chorus. The music swells and the theme plays as the ball is taken off and the bedroom set rematerialises. On another note, can I ask where Playing Nancy was sung at? The YouTube video doesn't list it.

I really enjoyed it tonight. Great lyrics, great music and fabulous ensemble and lead work. The illusions in Act 2 were great. I loved Rita, and yes her voice isn't mainstream leading lady stuff but she shines in her acting and her "Prince" song was great and fabulously delivered. I have to say that I shed a tear during "Seeing You". I thought "Being Nancy" was okay, but certainly not the highest element or the best song in the show.
Michael Xavier was somewhere in the audience, I saw him at the theatre lobby and again outside.
Seeing it again on Saturday evening on the "original" final performance.

So i went to see the show yesterday afternoon. I was worried Karl wouldn't be on but he was so that was good. I really only went based on the reviews from fellow board members and i am very glad i went to see it as i really enjoyed it. It's a brilliant show with great performances, some great creative moments and some absolutely lovely music. It just sounded beautiful , i loved all the harmonies. Hope it makes it's way into the West End as it does really deserve it and i think it would be a good success. I sat in the 2nd row and liked being close but also do think i missed out a little on some of the features in the design, which was a shame, but still.

Best of luck to it, I don't think it will be quite as well received in NYC as it has been in London but it should do well enough to stay open for a while.

Hopefully it will open in the West End too. I think it's a shame if the Old Vic run is all we see of it over here, especially if changes are to be made to it for the Broadway run we won't get to see.
