Not strictly a play I know.

Just booked tickets for this in a couple of weeks time. Although I am not quite old enough to remember listening to the programme on the radio I have always loved listening to the "cassettes" of it. Especially Julian and Sandy.
Its at the Museum of Comedy so that should be interesting as its a venue I have never been to.

I went to a Bernard Cribbins podcast recording there last year, but I wouldnt get too excited about the Museum of Comedy for a show, it's basically three or four rooms under a church, if this going to be put on in the same room I was in, it holds about 40 people, what with people being sat on standard office chairs and a very low stage, the sight lines were awful, so unless the place has been upgraded since last Summer, best to get there early if its unreserved seating.

I treated my folks to see this in Milton Keynes the other week and they loved it! I grew up listening to this as my Dad was/is a fan and over the years we've all come to appreciate it. Julian and Sandy are my faces too.

It was in the crypt of St George's church near the British Museum, tube Tottenham ct Rd then along Bloomsbury Way. Interesting church as it is in the background of the famous Gin Alley print by Hogarth. So imagine this imposing building being just a few steps away from the misery of the gin craze. There is a small display about the area in the crypt which houses the Museum of Comedy. I sat on the banquette that Spike Milligan sat on in the pub when he wrote his stuff. And there are prints and books and possessions of,our comedic history, all very interesting. And a nice little bar. Quite the place for assignations and private parties ( you can hire this venue)

The little acting space is nicely done and very suitable for this show. The five actors are really good - they certainly can do the voices and the acting is fine. I would have liked by now ( saw similar if not the exact same show many years ago now...) a deepening of the out of radio characters they portray. We all know that Kenneth Willimas was a troubled being and something of this would be interesting, especially as one or two of the set pieces no longer amuse as they did. Having said this, the classic set pieces are still wonderful. We will never know how they got away with it.
