Alexander Hanson was quite boring in the monstrous RAH concert - and I think he's boring in every role he plays - but Joanna would be brilliant casting and a great Carousel reunion with Janie!

I like La Riding but she isn't box office. Would have thought they'd have gone with a name (like Staunters).
I ADORE Alex Hanson in everything he does, and I saw the RAH concert. Was sat at the back so it was hard to tell how good individual performances were.

Actually Carousel was in the Lyttelton - but I agree it's great to have them reunited at the National - almost echoing the story in Follies. I think Joanna Riding will be an astonishing Sally and I actually thought Alex Hanson one of the saving graces of the ROH concert and longed to see him in a better production. |

Oklahoma! was at the Olivier - transferring to the Lyceum

Because then the subtext would go against the ACTUAL text and words spoken Ha yes, like I said, subtext possibly wasn't the word I was looking for, but anyway, it was just an interpretation, and they certainly aren't written in stone (pardon the pun) but thanks for being so open to them Also, I was getting confused earlier when I said "Ben wanting to be with Phyllis", obviously should have read "Ben wanting to be with Sally"! |

Riding and Dee don't look similar to me. But even if they did the implication here is that Riding is not enough of an actress to play a role she's not type cast for. I'm pretty sure that's not the case and that she'll be a brilliant Sally.

I think the confusion about Carousel is because the 1994 Broadway transfer was at the Vivian Beaumont which is a thrust stage similar to the Olivier.

And I think I'd actually prefer this cast to the original one. |

I remember My Fair Lady played the Lyttelton rather than the Olivier because it was always intended to transfer to Drury Lane |

And I was there the first matinee after press night - a performance that unfortunately (or not, depending on your perspective) did not include Ned Sherrin going arse over tit.
Sublime production, albeit better in the Lyttelton than at the Shaftesbury. The cast changes when it transferred were not improvements.

In a wig like the one Staunton wore in the production's original run, Riding would look quite different from Dee. Since Staunton didn't wear anything close to her own hairstyle in the show, I assume Riding won't either, and I think she'll probably act it beautifully.
